Advantages: Neat little compact camera
Disadvantages: Can be slow capturing images, eats batteries quickly
My wife recently replaced her digital camera and gave me this to either use or sell on Ebay depending on my preference. Basically she was looking to get an upgrade and wanted something that she could do more with. When I asked her what was wrong with this one, she just said "Well, it's okay but I want something better!" So I decided to nuse it for a few weeks myself to see if I wanted to keep it or whether it was actually better me just getting rid of it. I had been thinking about getting into photography as a hobby as I have always enjoyed taking pictures and I thought this would be a good excuse for me to practise my art and see what I could come up with.
Personally, after almost a month of use and many photos taken, I have come to the conclusion that this is an okay camera but nothing that special. One thing that goes against it is that both my wife and myself have noted that it quite literally EATS batteries. So it is okay for occassional use but probably not for everyday such as when you are on holiday. You can buy rechargables that will fit but I have heard that not all brands seem to work with it so this is something you might want to look into if you are considering buying it.
As for the pictures, well it has 12.2 megapixels and, though I am not entirely sure whether that is good or bad, it does seem to produce half-decent photos though perhaps not as detailed as I would like if I am going to start photography as a "proper" hobby and not just as a bit of fun. It can take a while sometimes to actually take the photo too so it is not good if you are going for action shots!
The zoom on it is okay but I found it a bit fiddly to get really good results and is optical only and not digital. I am not sure how this makes a difference but I am told that this can affect quality of photos greatly.
But on the plus side it is light, compact and easily stored. And available in colours other than pink!!
Overall I think if I was going to just use this for occasional use and not all the time then this would probably do the job but as I intend to take my new hobby a bit more seriously, then I think perhaps I am going to need something a bit better. It is not a bad camera by any means but perhaps not quite suited for what I want it for. I personally think it would be good as a first proper camera for a young teenager or a casual photographer but if you are going to be vtaking a lot of photos, it might be better to shop around!
Summary: Not perfect but small and easy to carry and quite charming to look at.
