Outstanding compact for it's price.
Member Name: MamaC
Advantages: Compact, 12.2mp, good quality
Disadvantages: Consumes batteries fast esp if weather is hot.
As a semi-pro photographer I started off in life with a P10 some 9 years ago, kept it for a good few years and was so impressed that I moved into the world of DSLRs. We all know that carrying DSLRs around can be a real pain if you just need to take a few family holiday shots. I needed to upgrade from my P10 and that's when I decided to go for the silver Samsung ES28. And I was not at all disappointed with my choice.
It boosts a massive 12.2mp sensor, and has a built in stabilisation system which smooths out the enivitable handshake - this works exceptionally well when you've zoomed in on your subject. ISOs range from 80 to 1600, and the f4.9 lens is 27mm, you can zoom in at X 5 and still keep the quality. It's connectivity uses a USB 2 which I hook up to my Mac to transfer the pictures and video across at ease via Intelli-studio (software that you are furnished with). LCD screen is 2.5 inches - a good size. It doesn't come with a memory card, so please ensure that you purchase one.
One really impressive feature which I've not used on a compant digital camera before was the scene recognition feature, you have about 16 different scenes to choose from such as beauty shot, landscape, portrait, it also detects blinking!. Colours are pretty good but not 100% accurate when viewed on my monitor. Pictures are very crips and contrast is good. It copes well with fast moving objects as I found out when photographing the cars at Thruxton last year. I've not yet tried it on the low light setting, so can't comment on the quality and noise etc.
The instruction manual doesn't come with it so you'll have to refer to the online manual if you get stuck. Menu systems is good and is easy to get into the setting mode. You can seasrch for a specific picture by entering the date it was taken, this narrows down your options and safes a lot of time.
I purchased this from Amazon for £97.95 inc P & P.
Summary: Good camera for those wanting to keep a small compact in their pockets.
