Advantages: Very Cheap, Sturdy, Easy to use

Disadvantages: Bare feaatures, heavy

I own this camera and I think it is good value for money.

In essense it is a rebranded Pentax K10D, which is a highly rated camera by the critics, but a good bit cheaper. I purchased this camera with 2 kit lenses, the 18-55mm and the 50-200mm lenses, which is a good set as it allows you to take a wide range of photographs. As they are kit lenses, they are just OK, I would recommend buying better lenses. I recommend buying UV filters for your lenses, these are reasonably cheap and they prevent your lenses getting scratched, which can prove expensive!

Pentax lenses will fit this camera and there is a good selection of this, and the independent lens manufacturers (Tamron etc) make lenses to fit this camera. Just make sure you select the Pentax/Samsung fit!

The camera has some cool features, multi shooting, RAW Mode. The camera will take up to 10MP shots so this will allow to to blow your images up to A3 with no loss of detail. This is an entry level camera to the semi pro level of photography, it lacks the features of Professional cameras, such as the Canon 5D, but this is reflected in the price! It is excellent value for money.

Picture quality is excellent. The camera ships with software, but I found this to be less useful than using Photoshop, but if you cant afford Photoshop then this is a good alternative. There are USB leads and leads to connect to your TV etc so you can blow your pics up on the big screen! The camera doesnt come with a Memory Card, I would buy a fairly big one as images are generally over 1MB in size. I would also reccomend buying an extra battery as you always go dead at the worst possible time!

The camera also has a point and shoot mode, for those not that confident in adjusting the manual settings. You can go fully manual or semi automatic, there are a plethora of options available. The manual covers all of these, which is comprehensive, yet easy to understand.

It is not a light camera, it weighs about 1kg with lenses attached, so bear that in mind if you are going on a long shooting session. It does not come with a carrybag, so I would recommend you buy a Lowepro Bag to carry the camera and your lenses in. The camera is sealed so that its very water resistant. Its quite bulky and I like this as its sturdy and easy to hold. The screen is large and easy to view. There is no video mode on this camera, its a pure camera, not a jack of all trades!

It is an intuitive piece of kit to use. I am an amateur photographer, it will be useful for most situations and comes at a great price! It now has a bigger brother, the GX20 but this is still a great piece of kit

Summary: If you are looking to get into photography and want a good entry level dSLR, then look no further!
