Speaking as a bit of a novice (who was looking for a reasonably priced camera that takes good pictures without too much hassle or technical know-how), so far I have thought this is an excellent camera! It is fairly simple to use, especially if you keep it in automatic modes and don't plan on fiddling with the settings too much; luckily you don't necessarily need to, it takes a great picture anyway and the photos come out very clear. Although when using flash every single photo I took had red eye, there is a mode that claims to reduce red eye. The battery life is fairly good, which was important to me as I like to take it out for days out and needed it to last a long time, which it does.
You can also load music onto this camera which I haven't tried yet, but its definitely a bonus to have a multitasking camera.
So, from a technophobes viewpoint, I would definitely recommend this camera, its pretty simple to use and takes great photos without much skill needed from the photographer. However, there is a huge amount of settings which can be changed, which I'm sure would satisfy someone more experienced than myself!
One minor issue with the instructions. The included manual is very limited and you have to load a disc onto your computer to find more instructions which didnt work on my computer. But this is only a minor problem!
Bought this camera a few months ago and I am so glad that I did. Its a fantastic camera that looks great and produces excellent picture quality.
The screen is large and looks very smooth when panning around with very little lag. The resolution is not the largest on the market at 8.2 Mpixels but is all that any person could need, the size of the image produced is very large and clear. I bought a SDHC card for mine with 4Gb capacity and allow several hundred pictures to be stored on it or a couple of hours of video footage! The options for photo taking is simple, allowing auto mode for everyday photos or programmable for many options and modifications to the standard shooting modes, video playback is reasonable quality and sound recording good.
I would recommend this camera to any 'everyday' shooter, it produces great photo quality for a good price. A good buy!
An impressive, 3.0" high-resolution LCD screen dominates the back of the i85 camera and enhances the imaging experience for end users, giving them a more detailed display to both compose their shots, review their images and enjoy video clips or movies. Going above and beyond what's expected of an ultra-thin DSC, the i85 manages to pack in a non-protruding 5x optical zoom NV lens boasting a maximum shutter speed of 1/2,000 sec and a super macro focus of 1cm.
The i85 is the third model in Samsung's digital camera arsenal to feature PMP functionality, which enables users the ability to enjoy movies, music videos, television shows and even their favorite music while on-the-go. In addition to PMP, the i85 also features Samsung's innovative World Tour Guide function, which provides travel information covering 4,500 regions in 30 countries - helping users to plan trips and find their way while on the road.
When setting the camera to PMP mode, i85 users can easily listen to their favorite MP3 files or watch their favorite video content on the camera's large, 3.0" high-resolution display. The bundled Digimax Converter software seamlessly converts the user's MPEG, AVI, MOV, WMV and ASF files for viewing on the i85. For music on-the-go, the software can also convert MP3 and WAV audio files in several simple steps. The innovative software also allows users to view subtitles, adjust the screen size and crop and stretch the image to fit the screen as desired. The i85 also doesn't hold back when it comes to sound either. To listen to videos or music, the i85 features a 2.5mm headphone port as well as stereo speakers boasting SRS 3D acoustic technology.
The ultra-thin i85 also features Samsung's i-movie mode, which offers users high-resolution SVGA (800x592) MPEG-4 video and advanced editing controls. By using the camera's Successive Recording mode, users can pause, and then resume filming of video clips without having to save the clips as individual files. Additionally, users can operate the camera's optical zoom while filming and can engage a movie stabilizer to compensate for unwanted camera movement and subject blur.
