.Why I chose the camera
I got this camera in June 2009 as a birthday gift, at the time I was studying photography and was in great need of a camera that I could use on my projects that I had been set but that would also act as a camera I could take out with me on weekends and holidays so I needed something with lots of features, high megapixels but small and handy to take around with me. Of course Samsung is a well established name in the world of technology and at the great price of £169.99 from Argos there was nothing else at this price of the same standard at all. I believe you can get this even cheaper now from Amazon but I always think with cameras it's best to shop around a little first.
I believe I chose the right camera, still in tact but a little rough around the edges - I would highly recommend getting a camera case as mine just gets stuck in my clutch bag/handbag and has resulted in lots of scratches. At the least I would get a screen protector. Unfortunately the camera does not come with a built in time machine so I will have to learn my lesson for next time.
I opted for the red and silver design however I believe it is also available in silver and black (as shown in the picture), bronze and black or plain matt black. It has a strong all-metal exterior and it is a great shape making it comfortable to hold despite its compact size. It is very attractive for a camera and is stylish as well as convenient and comfortable...don't you wish they made shoes too!
There is a lot of fun and useful features including face, smile and blink detection, a range of colour options, scene mode programs, auto, program and even manual exposure. Image adjustments include sharpness, saturation and contrast, as well as a wide range of colour options. There are also several options in playback mode, including red-eye correction and automatic contrast balance. It also has an HD video setting that you can record either with or without audio - I believe the maximum recording time is 20minutes which is about average for a camera and you can still use the zoom facility.
The camera is touch screen which others find very confusing to use so it is rather amusing watching them try to work it out (especially when drunk) the touch screen itself is very sensitive and responds to a light fingertip touch. It responds to a finger not a stylus so unless you have very thin fingers you may have a problem operating the camera. I personally have no problems with this but I think a man perhaps would.
At 14.7-megapixels and a 3.6x zoom Schneider-Kreuznach lens the camera really can take fantastic photos and at the time there really wasn't many cameras on the market that could say that and have the extensive list of features that the Samsung offers. The camera also comes with a rechargeable battery and a plug for charging which can be taken out of the main plug socket and plugged as a USB direct to your computer. I think this is a great feature and it means you don't have numerous wires for one camera it lets you charge and upload with only one cable.
Overall feelings on the camera
I think my main hang up on this camera is where the buttons are positioned when I'm personally using the camera it doesn't cause a problem, but when I ask someone to take a photo of the group for example first take - they turn the camera off. I don't know how because the button is bigger and raised as opposed to the small 'on/off' button but there you have it, 7 times out of ten...they turn it off! Then there's the flash, it's a little square that pops up - people don't expect it so maybe 9 TIMES OUT OF 10 they put their finger over it, very annoying! If it's not either of those two issues there's always the clown that finds the pop of the flash hilarious and ruins the photo with either a shocked expression or bursting out in laughter.
Besides the positioning of the buttons I think this is an amazing camera especially for the price tag! I would definitely buy it again and would recommend to anyone! If anyone is thinking of purchasing this camera and has any queries please do not hesitate to contact me, I think I have provided all the information I would need but all the other specs you would be able to find over the internet :)
