Advantages: 10 . 1 million pixels, numerous zooms, automatic shake reduction
Disadvantages: touch buttons activate when aiming to take a picture
I was recently looking to buy a new digital camera and saw the samsung NV11. It is a sleek black camera which looks different from the usual stainless steel slimline cameras I had looked at. It has 10.1 million pixels and many features to help take great pictures such as the automatic shake reduction. When I received it, I was faced with a big user manual on the software disc provided. However, I started taking pictures on the automatic mode and downloaded them on my computer. I was amazed at the picture quality especially when blowing them up. I will leave the manual for when I want to do something more with my pictures.
I was surprised at the ease of use for standard picture taking and the incredible quality but I would recommend using the software provided as some of the pictures can look blurry when displayed on other picture software. The touch button function is handy but it is easy to catch it when taking pictures but it hasn't affected any of them yet. It has several zooms but the automatic function takes care of this. It also has an automatic shutter so it is closed when the camera is not in use so no more dirty lense.
It also has a video mode for short movies, but I have not tried this feature yet but I expect that they will be just as good.
The 2.7" screen allows you to view your pictures for a short moment after taking but you have to be quick. To review your photos you can press the back button and they will appear one by one and you can view them with the scroll button.
There are 2 drawbacks I can think off:
Firstly the zoom button is close to where you hold the camera to point which can be annoying.
Secondly, the flash which pops out instantly when needed does not retract by itself which means you have to remeber to close it manually when you turn the camera off.
I have to say there is more technical details than I care to mention or even understand. All I can say is that It takes great pictures, looks great, is slimline enough to carry around and that it will be present at all my family's outings and parties for a while to come yet. The drawbacks are a small price to pay for such a great camera.
I acquired mine through ebay for about £149 with a 2GB memory card(can now take up to 700 pics) but prices range from£163 from amazon to about £190 in argos
Summary: Great pictures and easy to use
