I bought this camera a couple of years ago and not once has it let me down. Originally it was bought for general holiday snaps, due to its compact size. However eventually it has found its way into use as part of my academic research and has given me excellent quality pictures of my apparatus/experiments that have been of publishable standard.
It's easy to use with no difficult features, im certainly not one to want to fiddle about with the settings and generally have it on auto focus. In summary I would not hesitate to have this camera again, although I expect to have it for some time longer. So far I have had no problems with the camera, connectivity or charging.
Perhaps the only fault, and it really is small, is that my large hands sometimes mean my fingers get in the way of the pictures because the camera is rather small and the smooth casing isnt always easy to grip.
I was given this camera for christmas a few years ago and it still works like a dream. I've bashed it about a fair few times, and have even resorted to sticking it on the radiator after dropping it in a reasonably large bowl of water... but it survived. yaaay.
Good picture quality - 7.2 megapixels, with both optical and digital zoom.
Good video quality - it's great so you don't have to needlessly carry around a video camera with you as well!
Large range of features - these include the video, but also mp3 streaming, a portable music player, and a voice recorder. Perhaps less useful is the text viewer feature - allowing you (according to the manufacturer) to read e-books. (??)
Rugged - as stated above I've put this camera through it's paces and it's come out in great shape. It;s got quite a few scratches, and the sticker covering the rotating wheel at the top has fallen off, but it still works well.
Good looks - aesthetically pleasing, I think is what they say!
Simple menu - picture options are divided into "night", "close-up", "landscape", and so on - so you really don't have to think at all, just select the right option, point, and shoot!
Some unnecessary features - a dedicated text viewer on a camera? Seems a bit odd.
Slightly dated - it is a few years old, but you wouldn't know it from the picture quality.
Overall - a good product. You might be able to snap one up somewhere for <£50, and, if you can, you should.
This is a brilliant camera! I am a budding photographer who can't afford a real digital SLR just yet, so i went for this one. The pictures that it takes are incredibly professional and focussed and every picture always looks amazing. The camera itself is super-easy to use, with clearly labelled buttons and functions to help you navigate around it's many functions. It is very lightweight and thin, which is perfect for in a handbag or carrying around, and when you whip it out of a case it looks very stylish too! The black and the silver finishes are both very durable: I have dropped mine on several occasions and there is absolutely no sign of it whatsoever! Superb! It could have a few more features, such as a panoramic option like so many other cameras these days have, or a colour adapter so that you can see the picture in black and white with just one dominant colour, such as red, which can look very effective. However, overall this is a fantastic camera, the picture quality, ease of use, stylishness and overall effortlessness of it is simply stunning. Highly recommended.
I bought this camera just over two years ago now and it stills works like new! When I bought it, it was just to replace my old camera but I wanted something a little more flashy. It's really great for a range of settings; a night out, sunset on the beach in Cornwall, and even close up detailed photos of flowers and dandelions.
The video function on this camera is also really good. Not so much for live music, especially if you're close to the front so I prefer to use my mobile for this purpose. However, it has picked up some funny moments on days out and is really handy if you have young children and want to quickly and effectively "capture the moment".
The only problems that I have had with this camera is that sometimes the shutter gets stuck but if you turn it off and on a couple of times it corrects itself. Again, the sound quality of live music is poor and has a somewhat pointless MP3 function - most people use their phones or other MP3 players for music and even if you do want to use the camera for MP3 you have to use the headphones provided as the headphone port is smaller than usual headphone size. It also doesn't come with a case and my camera is covered in scratches from where I didn't have a case for a few months (but it fits perfectly in a gameboy case!!)
Overall though, I love this camera and I'm the sort of person who likes to update everything on a fairly regular basis but I really don't need to with this camera.
I have had this camera for about 2 years now. I bought it becuase I was going on a foreign trip and wanted something relaibale that I could charge from a usb port - which this does. On my second day in beijing I dropped it form about 4 feet on to concrete. The metal case dented slighlty, but the camera was still in great working order.
Even in fairly remote parts of the world you can find internet cafes with USB ports for charging, so that's really handy.
It can play mp3 and has stereo speakers built in, but they're useless. The streo jack is a smaller than usual 2.5 mm, so you need special earphones or an adapter, but the sound is Ok.
It takes pictures with no hassle - very point and click; as well as allowing you to adjust the effective ISO number etc. It has an anti-shake mode which I don't really understand) and the usual flash, no-flash, fill-in flash options.
The macro lens is also good for extreme close-ups.
All-in-all trouble-free, easy to use, and robust.
Samsung NV3 digitial camera
I've had this camera for 12 months as it was a Christmas present.
7.2 Mega Pixels, 3x optical zoom, Portable Multimedia Player (PMP), Stereo Speakers, Advanced Shake reduction, 2.5" TFT LCD, ISO 1000, Digimax Conveter supported OS: Windows 98SE/ME/2000/XP.
I won't pretend to know what all those features are and I'm sure I don't use half of them, but what I can tell you is that the features I use are very good. I especially like the movie setting. This allows short movies to be taken and because of the advanced shake reduction feature and stereo speakers this really is top quality. Although as the person recording it does pick up your own embarrassing voice so it's good that earphones are supplied.
The camera itself is quite heavy for a digital camera but I liked having that weight factor as it felt much more substantial despite its slimline feature. It is sleek in design and I have the black version. My only complaint is the facade is easily scored (which I did within 5 minutes of opening).
Charging is also another great feature. If you are downloading your pictures using the USB cable it simultaneously charges your camera!! there is also a "plug" supplied which the USB clips into for mains charging.
The buttons are simple to use and there are a range of different scene setters, and resolution types.
I have had to return this camera twice due to the shutter not closing or opening properly. Both times I have rung Samsung (not the easily telephone number to track down) and they have posted out a pre-paid envelope. And it has been returned within 2 weeks. I have to say I am very pleased with their customer service. The people on the phone have always been pleasant and the warranty on the camera (originally purchased from Amazon) is 2 years!!
Advantages - l I love my camera. I think the photo quality is very good and the customer service is excellent from Samsung.
Disadvantages - has "froze" a couple of times, and facade scores easily. No camera case is supplied which would be good as its a slim design. The box it comes into says "sensory pleasure," bit cheesy.
The Samsung NV3 was brought as a present for my Mother last christmas.
Its Silver / bronze in colour and is fairly slimline for the array of functions that it has.
If you're looking for a more retro feel camera this would be a perfect choice.
My only problem with the camera is that it also includes an MP3 player within its functions. I still find this fairly pointless but given the size and the look of the camera I am sure that many people would be happy to stream their music through it.
As a gift for my mother, she still doesnt quite see the point.
It has a large screen, a good qaulity pixel content but in regards to taking photos I would suggest to not bother taking any in a dark room as you cant see the subject until the flash goes off and you have taken the photo.
After my mother recieved the camera as a gift my grandmother also liked it so she too went to purchase exactly the same camera. All was well until the camera wouldnt charge... something to do with the connectivity of the USB lead to the wall plug, but Samsung were very good and replaced it at once.
An all-round fab camera apart from a few pointless attributes.
My boyfriend bought me this camera for Christmas last year and I have been really impressed. Firstly it comes in black or silver and it's a really nice size so that it fits easily into a pocket without being too small that you can't see the buttons.
The camera has a large screen so that you can see what you are photographing well and I have taken some great photos with it. It's easy to link up to a pc to view and print photos. It is 7.2 mega pixels which means you get a very good picture.
The camera also has other features such as a video camera and MP3 player. However i've not worked out how to use the MP3 player yet as it seems a bit complicated. The process of taking pictures is very straight forward though and it has some good special effects which are easy to use.
After going through three cameras in two years, I decided to buy this one. Although it is a great camera i have not figured out how to use all the features yet. (there are quite alot). It has been very reliable and i have captured some great pictures on it. It does not hold alot of memory unless you purchase a memory card for it. I have dropped this camera a few times and it is still in the same condition as i bought it, so it has been designed to take wear and tear. The only problem i have with it is the battery, i think it runs out quite quickly. This camera is not for someone that struggles with technology as it is not a basic camera and you have to read through the manual a few times just to get started.
