Advantages: Extremely cheap, great zoom and control system
Disadvantages: Slightly bulky, Older users may struggle with the controls
The samsung nv7 is the latest in samsung's camera range. It features great looks and a great new control system. I have owned one since christmas.
The looks on this camera are in my opinion brilliant. They copy the old school camera style from the leica m8 camera, but at the same time it has a nice black finish with a cool blue ring around the lens cover. The camera may be quite bulky because of the lens but it is surprisingly quite light. There is also a great case that can be brought from samsung for the camera, it has the same styling and fits perfectly.
The pictures taken with the nv7 are good. The real stand out feature here is the lens, it may be big but it offers a massive 7x optical zoom, whenever the zoom is used picture quality is not compromised. The sensor itself measures an average 7 megapixels.
There is a great control system on the back of the camera entitled smart touch. Along the 2.5 inch LCD screen there are a series of buttons. These buttons do not have actual symbols on them, instead they are used for different purposes. Different logos will pop up at the side of the screen next to the buttons and clicking on the button will select that option. When scrolling through a menu or gallery the user just scrolls their finger across the buttons. It's a great system and makes camera usage much quicker. For older and younger people this may be a hard system to manage though.
The nv7 is available now for a great price of just £100. The box comes with a lens cover and usb lead also supplied.
Summary: A brilliant starter camera
