I bought this camera 2 years ago now and it still stands up to advances in digital camera technology. The design is still contemporary, the photo setting abilities are still relevant and the zoom for a camera at this price is still in my opinion unbeatable.
The best feature by far for this camera is the LCD screen on the front of the camera. It is easy to use and takes great shots of yourself and your friends at a great zoom length; so good you don't get that awkward arm reaching out shot in the picture! It's easy to turn the screen on at the front as well making a great picture promised.
The surprise feature of this camera is the fantastic zoom. With two zoom settings, the picture is clear in both dark and light and is even better than some traditional cameras used for distance pictures.
In summary this is a great all round camera with a ready for a party feel. A fantastic camera at a fantastic price.
I have had this camera for quite a few years now and despite modern technology generating new improved products frequently, I am suitably happy with this purchase and will be for some time.
The camera itself is rather attractive, black in colour and slim in size. The resolution is 12.2 mega pixels and there is 4.6X optical zoom which I find particularly useful for landscape shots. It can easily fit in my hand and is easy to carry around. The back of the camera contains a 3" touch screen lcd screen which is used to view the subject matter one wishes to capture as well as choose between the various settings. The only downside is that there is no viewfinder so one has to rely solely on the lcd screen. The memory of the camera is limited so purchasing a micro sd card is necessary and avoids the frustration of having no memory left when on holiday which I experienced the first time I took this away.
One of the key and unique features of this camera is the 2nd 1.5" lcd on the front of the camera which is very useful when taking self portrait shots. If used during the moving children setting then a colourful picture of a clown appears which can be used to catch childrens attention, providing of course they aren't scared of clowns.
What I love about this camera along with the face recognition feature is the range of different shooting modes available to suit the desired situation. These range from beauty shots which give the subject a clearer complexion, to sunset mode, firework mode, landscape, moving children and several more. There is also a setting for video which is useful for short clips.
The price when it was bought a few years ago was around £200 however it has since gone down in price and is worth checking online for the best deal.
I bought this camera after my old one broke after I dropped it. As it had been a Samsung I decided I trusted that brand and went in search of another one. I began researching online and this camera had great reviews- and it was a great price in many shops too. I decided to go ahead and purchase online, when I found that this model was on offer so I was very pleased with the price I got it at.
When it arrived I was surprised by just how small and compact the camera was. It looked tiny in comparison to my old model. This is a great feature as it means that it easily fits in handbags and pockets without taking up too much room. Also its very light in weight so it's no problem carrying it around.
The instructions for this camera were very easy to understand and it was easy to set up and begin taking pictures.
The image quality is second to none- I really noticed a difference after my last camera was a 7mp and even that I thought was brilliant but not in comparison to this. I save all these photos on to my computer which is very simple to do and comes with easy to understand instructions on how to do this.
I would definitely recommend this camera to anyone- its low cost and great quality- also easy to use and compact. A + Samsung!
I love this camera and use it all the time. It has a very nice touch screen which is decently sized. The picture quality is great and the flash is very good and not too overpowering. It is very attractive and can easily be hooked up to the computer to upload pictures. It has a very good feature where you touch the front and a small screen comes on, so you can see what you look like if you are taking a picture of yourself. The battery lasts quite a while and I don't have to recharge it often. It turns on very quickly and it is easy to set up and look through pictures. It zooms in quite far and you can get good quality pictures even using the zoom. It does have an option for video recording and it is quite good. The quality of the video is very good, just like the photos.
The only slight problem I have with it is that when you record a video, it loses sound whilst you're zooming in (if you do zoom in). It isn't a major issue and is no problem if you zoom in before you record videos or don't use the zoom at all.
Overall, I would recommend this camera to any avid photographer. It is great!
I rececived this camera for a wedding present last year and there is very little not to love about it. It's techy enough for my hubby to feel like he has a gadget and small enough to fit into my handbag - what more do you need!!
The picture quality is fantastic 12 megapixels, you have great options for taking photos but also the auto option means it's hard to get it wrong. It also has multiple face recognition and video camera ption which is also great quality - great for the happy birthday singing moments and those ones too good just for a still.
On to the good, no the great bit, the front screen, this is the bit that makes this camera worth buying... For all of you who have held a camera up at arm's length for 20/30 seconds trying to make sure that shot in the bar/on the beach/in the park/night out of you and mate/boyf/hubby/nan comes out great showing the fun you are both having and then end up with half a face or a bad shot and then try and take the picture again, only to find the fun has gone and smiles looks strained and then you give up.....this is the camera for you. No more back Facebook photos of yourself - it's genius!! The front lcd is brilliant and has a 'beauty shot' function, softening the picture too. There is also a great function on the front lcd for kids which is a little clown face and funny sound, great to keep their attention (and eyes) on the camera - especially good for toddlers.
Photos are super easy to upload too!
All in all a top camera in all ways, the only 'con' is that there is a delay between taking shots which can sometimes be a paing but other than that, it's a great camera!
This camera is the best! I wanted this from the first time I saw it advertised. I was fed up of coming home from a night out and having photos of half a head or a finger over the lens so the LCD screen on the front of this camera was a massive attraction for me.
At 12 mega pixels you get excellent quality photographs or videos and a wide variety of settings to choose from (e.g lighting or surrounding settings). I wouldn't be without it!
The battery life is also impressive. I have not yet taken this camera to an event and had the battery run flat...this is very good as I tend to take lots of photos and spend lots of time looking back over photos that I have taken.
I was also lucky enough to buy it when it was half price!!!
Unfortunately, when I first bought this camera I had to send it back due to there being black marks on the main LCD screen, I was told this was a fault with the lens. Samsung were fantastic though and sent me a replacement camera with no hassle!
Overall I would give this camera 10/10. Stylish design and perfect photos
As my heading says where do I start, I just LOVE this camera, I treated myself as my old camera was just about giving up on me! This camera has a fantastic touch screen at the back which is so handy as you dont have all the hassle of the buttons at the back. The Auto mode is fantastic, I recently took some pictures of the snow and the family at Christmas and the quality in Auto mode was superb.
The front of the camera is even better, it has a non visable screen at the fron which comes on when you tap it ( you would never know there is a screen on the front of the camera until you touch it!) The settings for this are amazing, childs setting 5 stars, it has a clown on the front of this small screen so when you are trying to get your child to look at the lense this clown attracts them and then snap your perfect picture.
Also the front screen is perfect for taking a shot without the need to press any buttons!! all you have to do is smile at the camera and it takes the picture automatically AMAZING technology.
Overall a fantastic purchase and I got it at a cracking price of £90!!!
Where do I start? How can I possibly convey into words just how good this camera is?
It far surpasses many other compact digital cameras on the market on the moment, and whilst generally Samsung is thought of as being inferior to Sony and Pentax and Canon I must say this camera currently wins hands down for every different specification.
First of the picture quality is amazing for the price, 14 mega pixels is well above the average, second the zoom 4.6 also beats the average of 3x optical for a comact camera, especially for one of this size. The size is another advantage of this camera. It is happy medium of being small enough to be comfortable to carry round yet big enough for you to actually see what you are doing. The screen being 3.5" LCD means that not only is the diplayed picture quality good but you can actually see it! This is pefect combined with the fact that it is a touch screen so there are no surplus buttons to 'acidently' press.
Its just an amazing camera and an affordable price
I recently received this camera as a birthday present, and have been using it for a few months now. In terms of style, I got the one with silver on the edge, and it looks really good. It's small enough to fit into your pocket (more so than my old camera - a HP Photosmart E327) and means I carry it around more often.
The main screen has a touch screen user interface, which means the screen is much larger than other cameras, and the back of the camera isn't crowded with buttons. The interface is very simple to understand, and I could start using the camera without having to read the manual. There is also a screen on the front which has come in very useful - especially when taking photos with a tripod and using the timer - but if you're more into landscape photography, then this adds a considerable amount to the camera price, and the extra money could get you a camera with more megapixel or more zoom. The zoom is good enough for everyday photography (which is what the camera is for really) and the wide angle is average for this type of camera.
The image quality you get from this camera is very good, and there is a smart auto mode - and it's very difficult to get a bad photo in smart auto - but for those who prefer to have more control over photos, there is a program mode where all the settings can be controlled, and there are also presets for when smart auto is not being smart enough. The presets are very useful (and smart auto switches between presets based on what it can see in the photo), and some presets include "Children" (the screen on the front of the camera has a video of a cartoon clown - keeps children smiling and means they don't look directly into the camera and get red eye), "sunrise" and "sunset", "night", "fireworks" (self-explanatory) and "beach/snow" (which changes the white balance to counteract). The program mode includes all the settings you would expect from a point-and-shoot, including exposure, white balance, ISO and light metering. Face detection also comes in very useful, although this is now common to most digital cameras.
when this camera first came out I was completely blown away!
I had never even thought about the idea of having a camera with 2 lcd panels...the things they think up nowadays?
The main idea behind this Samsung is to be in a situation where you and (say) your partner, are on holiday and you wish to have a kodak moment (lol !) and there 's noone around to take that all important shot, with this camera you can tap the front of the panel and up pops an image of you, and your missus, staring right at you!
Ok, that was an over view.
The camera packs an impressive 4x optical zoom with an Schneider lens (German i think). The lens reacts very well, and having used it for months always seem lighting fast to refocus, even when using the macro mode!
The chasis on this model is sound, but rather light weight, (so as with a lot of newer models would probably not surive much of a fall!)
The samsung takes movie mode with audio, suprisingly the audio quality is surprisingly good, with speach even at a distance being rendered clear and crisp.
The ST500 is remarkably easy to use, as with many of the later samung models it remains for the main part intuitive, and as simple as possible.
It remains to be seen whether the main feature (the ability to take self portraits more easily!) is just a gimmick or a genuine U.S.P (unique selling point!)
No matter, this is a great little camera, regardless....
If you and the wife (or girlfreind) commute abroad ..it may just be a MUST.
The new Samsung camera, the St500 was advertised heavily before Christmas. I was one of those people who the advertising campaign worked on! I was planning on buying my boyfriend a new camera, as had just got a macbook so I thought it would be a good idea to get him a GPS camera. However this Samsung won me over, even though it didnt have GPS, and I ended up purchasing this for his present.
I bought the ST500 red, and it came in quite a girly pink box, which was a bit of a downside, but I wasnt going to let it put me off! The camera itself was black and red, the front being gloss, and the back being matt. The camera is compact with a big wide lens, overall looking incredibly funky. It definitely gets 10 out of 10 for appearance.
The camera has two LCD screens one on the back (three inches) and one on the front (1.5 inches) The idea of the screen on the front is that you can take pictures of yourself easily. When I say this it reminds me very much of myspace or facebook profile pictures where people are posing in front of the camera. This isnt the reason I wanted to buy it, it is because when me and my partner go on holiday together we want to be able to take pictures of both of us together!
Another great feature about the screen on the front is that it is touch sensitive, and to take a picture you just have to tap the screen for it to capture, whihc makes using the camera very simple and easy.
Now, when the camera arrived, because it was a present I didnt actually turn it on. It was only last weekend when my partner got it out to take some pictures and the touch screen doesnt work. We rang Samsung, got put on hold for a while and then got cut off, repeated the prcess and got told how to reset the camera. This didnt work so we are returning it to the company we bought the camera off.
I love the look of this camera and what it seems to promise. I just hope that we get a working one back which lives up to all this promise!
This camera is one of the best I've ever used. It looks great and the quality of pictures is unbeatable for such a proce. I can use the same memory card as my phone, which makes it so much easier, as I don't have to worry about buying and using diffrent types. I love touch screens, but they're usually out of my range- however here you can have a simple, yet grwaceful lcd touchscreen on the back! It has optical zoom, whoch, I suppose, is always handy. It also has a hidden screen on the front! Even my mother, who hates technology simply loves this. Cheap, yet high quality cameras like this are they way forward. I hands down recomend this product, if not for the stunning aray of features then simply for they stylistic design at a low price, it is a deffinite must own for camera experts and newcomers alike.
I received this camera for Christmas, and I must say, I was very impressed. The front screen, although small, is very useful when taking pictures of a group of friends and yourself, and the quality of both screens, especially the main, is very clear. The pictures are very sharp both on screen and on paper, and the optical zoom is also very good. The touch screen is easy to use, and definitely appealed to the younger members of the family, as the design is modern. The different modes and types of editing options on the camera are also very professional looking, and fun to use. I would recommend this camera to anyone looking to take impressive pictures, without all the complications of changing lens' and so on. However, do not make the mistake, as I did, of buying an SD card as Amazon recommends; it does not fit the camera!
I got this camera after seeing the adverts on TV after a brilliant innovative product from samsung. The purpose of this camera is for taking photos of yourself whilst you hold the camera, which I must imagine is going to attract a massive camera market. The front lcd screen isnt very big, but it is clear and sharp enough to see the photo you are taking. I must admit though, taking photos of yourself and getting everything you want included in the picture can be quite hard to get use to but it certainly is worth it in the end. The front screen can be quickly turned on by tapping the front panel where the front lcd screen is present when the camera is on auto mode. Also, as seen in the adverts, the front screen can be used to catch the attention of young child by playing a short clip of a cartoon clown which i must say is very innovative and clever! The camera also has the usual; face detection, optical image stabilisation, face tracking etc.
The lcd screen on the back takes up all the space it can because it is a touchscreen. This is very easy to use, and probably one of the best responding touch screens i have used in my opinion. Samsung also includes a feature called Haptic touch. This can be put on a high, medium or low setting, and is quite cool as the screen looks like it ripples and slightly vibrates on touch.Like most other samsung option menus, it is very easy to navigate and adjust any settings to your own liking.
The photos i have taken have been very good quality for a digital camera, however, I expect this from a £200+ camera. The pictures can be taken at 12megapixels, but this can be lowered if required. I also have a Panasonic fx150 which takes better quality photos than this camera, but I am not too bothered about quality but rather about functionality and ease of use, which the Samsung is definatly better at. I have a 4GB sd card in the camera and I estimate roughly 900-1000 photos being able to be stored on it.
A brilliant idea of putting a second screen in the front of the camera!
Bought this after seeing it on the TV. It was abit more than I wanted to pay really as I don't use cameras too much...but i decided to get it. The whole family had so much fun using it for the first time, It was so easy to take pictures while using the front screen...definately worth every penny! It is so easy to use and is very neat and compact to fit it in your bag. The camera its self is very light, hard to believe that such a small compact light camera it packing such a punch when it comes to taking pictures! The camera takes a great picture. Iv not really tried using all of its applications but can highly recommend it for ease of use. It has a good quality build and feel...all in all i would definately say that it is good value for money.
A five-star rating for Samsung for that genius idea!
