What a brilliant camera. I bought one for myself and my mother and we've both had amazing results, despite having very different uses - I play around with focus, and take lots of detailed landscape shots; she takes photos of people mostly and needs simplistic controls.
I love the auto focus, and wish I could post in some sample shots, I'm THAT happy with them. This camera has seen me through online selling, sunsets, fireworks and sparklers, close ups of butterflies, four different countries, and the odd selfie!
So good, Ive put off buying a DSLR for years. This camera is worth your money, whatever you want it to do for you.
I was in the market for a new camera recentlywhen I came across the samsung ST66. I had read previous reviews proir to buying this product to unsure my money was being well spent. I use a camera a alot so when mine broke I had to get one very quickly. I was shoced when tking pictures with this camera as the shoots came out with such a high quality. The pictures were sharp and crisp even those that i too when children and animals were moving in the shoot. The lense of the camera was perfect and i was able to zoom in from a large distance and still get a clear shoot on which all features and details were clear. Overall I found it really easy to use and I wouldnt be that good with any technology. I comes in a variety of colours and i choose the silver one. I wish I had chosen a different colour now though because scratches on the camera are able to see more on a silver background. Overall I would recommend to a friend and advise others to look ino this camera if in the maret for a knew family friendly camera!
I just bought this awesome camera recently, as backup camera to use when I don't feel like walking around my D-SLR. I am amazed by its performance. For such small size, it delivers tremendously.
- I picked up the red one. I like that it comes in different colors.
- It is so small and compact that it can fit comfortably and snugly even in the smallest of pockets. I can take it to any place where I want to hang out and cannot carry my D-SLR. It is just like a cellphone.
- Amazing and crisp 16MP picture quality. Smart mode works pretty well recognizing scenes. More so, the numerous scene modes work beautifully. It also has excellent wide angle coverage for landscapes. I am not much of a 'zoom' or 'crop' person, so 5X zoom is pretty great for me.
- 720p video shoots some very nice quality videos.
- Lot of fun effects in both camera and video modes that you can explore and enjoy.
- Love the panorama mode.
- Battery lasts long enough for an occasion or a day out. I have not counted the shots on a single charge, however I have never run out of battery before I returned home.
- makes an excellent camera for beginners. Very intuitive and has help messages to work your way around different functions.
- None so far. I am loving it.
- A bit slow, when taking pictures
This is an amazing performer and a beautiful looking camera and it is hard to find a camera with similar specs around the same price point. I would suggest to grab one while the deal lasts. Happy wekend
When you go on holiday to my experience should be one of ease and relaxation.
This camera fits that. The product is subtely thought out, a hybrid if you will, in terms of clashing efficency, speed, and robust together. The screen is large enough to enable the user to not be unsure about the picture they are taking, crisp, clear and fluid are all qualities I would say describe this Camera. I should mention that I am usually not an advocate of Samsung cameras down to the horror show I found myself in a couple of years ago with a previous model but having been convinced by my girlfriend to purchase this, I am finding myself slowly coming out of my biased view on the brand.
The design is certainly what has made me feel comfortable with this device, although if any criticism I would say the slightly weak lens that feels slightly not as well put together as the rest of the model. I should say that that this does certainly not detract from the overall feel of the camera, and is seemingly just probably down to my suspicious approach to Samsung. A main features of this camera has to be the combination of the light weight design with a hard overall finish, all too often I see camera brands selling their light weight designs at the cost of the integrity of the design to which I can vouch this product doesn't.
A great product for average camera usage.
This camera is easy to use with a large display screen on the reverse. It is extremely light weight and easy to fit into pockets and small bags when travelling. Also has the pretty cool feature panorama which is great for landscape shots. This camera performs well when on nights out as its F2.5 lens does snap shots in the dark and transform them without the glare and blur that is sometimes the case in these type of pictures. The DIS is great for snapping at sports events when it is sometimes difficult to stabalise the camera amongst the crowd going wild. Overall this digital camera is a great all around lightweight product and also rather cheap for what you get. The only thing that I would change is the flimsy lens shutters but as long as your carefull its not to much of an issue. The 5x zoom is not great if you are wanting close up clear images.
Used frequently by me and an 8 year old child and it's surprised me how good the quality of pictures are (crisp and sharp) from this budget offering from Samsung. I wanted a simple to use and understand camera for a child and also needed to be robust which it is. It's very easy to set-up and understand. We went through the comprehensive instructions together. Great 2.7 LCD display which is very clear, very intuitive and you can very quickly grasp what you need to do in order to improve the quality of your picture or video. It's High definition, but, not full 1080p, however, for the price that's not a major show stopper.
Great for taking close shots of family, pets etc. Although 5x optical zoom it's not great if your going to a concert and are someway back from the stage. Uses a Micro SD card for memory, re-chargeable battery, 25mm wide angled lens so groups shots or scenery are no problem. Great to be able to preview any image before you take the shot to ensure you don't end up taking it again.
My daughter is forever playing back her home made movies on our tv. This is great as the grandparents, with deteriorating eyesight, can enjoy as well.
The Samsung ST66 has a 16.1 Megapixels 25mm Wide 5X Optical Zoom, Bright F2.5 Lens and the ability to record in HD (720p, 30fps, MJPEG). I've found that this camera is perfect for taking pictures when at home or when you are out with friends, photos of your animals and photos of the outside world. One thing I love about it is that it has a very good focus, it literally only takes a couple of seconds. The auto-focus feature is great as you don't have to mess about preparing the camera for any photos you want to take . If you want to take a pic in the dark a little orange light turns on to help it focus, this is a great help. One downfall of this camera is the actual interface, it can be pretty confusing at times, but once you have a good understanding of how to use it, it's fine (it may take a while). I'm a massive fan of this camera. I've taken some really superb photos with it and I'd recommend it to anyone. One last positive are the built in speakers are very impressive - perfect for playing back and listening to video.
Great built in speakers
Cheap considering the quality
very light and easy to carry around
As mentioned above the digital interface can be pretty tough to navigate and use if you are not familiar with it.
This camera has fulfilled all I want from a small compact digital camera, good to look at, easy to use, clear controls and a great picture result. It would make a great present for all occasions. Most small cameras I have used in the past have been too fiddly and complex. Samsung seemed to have listened to their previous product reviewers and taken on board their expressed views, that what the ordinary man wants from a small digital camers is to be able to take it out of his pocket, switch it on point it and click it with the result of a good picture every time without all the focusing and switching that many others cameras seem to require.
The controls are clear, the 5x zoom in and out is easy to use, and the whole camera is neat and compact.
I am not very technically minded and want a camera that is idiot proof, and that is just what the Sansung St66 digital camera is, but not only that, this camera comes with an affordable price that makes one smile, well done samsung. Just another point to note, I am impressed with the quality of build and the robustness of this great little camera and would quickly recommend it to my friends and famiy.
I was bought this camera for christmas, as my boyfriend couldn't afford a DSLR.
Although we paid more than the camera is on sale for now, it was worth every penny.
It's extremely small and lightweight which is an obvious bonus for somebody who would want to carry it around in a handbag, although for people who lose things easily, this could be a downfall.
The 16mp camera with 25mm wide angle lens is absolutely perfect for somebody who just wants to take every day photos and is probably good enough for some amateur photographers. It also holds 5x zoom which is fantastic. Alot of cameras will lose focus when zoomed in but this is definitely not the case with this.
Another pro is the 1280x720p resolution hd video. The camera captures every frame perfectly and also picks up sound and plays it back in excellent quality.
My favorite feature is the panoramic capture which is extremely simple to use but allows you to take a widespread photo, easily wide enough to capture most rooms. The camera then scrolls the picture along the screen to show every detail.
It's available from most places such as pc world, argos etc and fairly affordable in all of them. The only let down in my opinion, is the battery life, however it does last long enough.
Would definitely recommend, well worth it's price.
~*~*~ Samsung ST66 - Pink ~*~*~
~ What is it? ~
This is a nice little compact digital camera. I have it in pink but I do believe it is also available in black, red, blue and silver.
~ Why I bought it? ~
I didn't buy this nor choose it as it was a Christmas present from my mum. I was however very pleased to receive it and have used it pretty much daily since I have had it. I keep it in a little camera case in my bag so I know where it is all the time. My little one is forever coming out with new funny facial expressions so it's to be able to capture the moment.
~ The camera ~
As I have already mentioned I have this in pink, the pink is very delightful pink shade which is set off with silver coloured hints. The zoom lens on the front are coloured in silver as is the top plate and buttons. SAMSUNG is also in silver lettering up the side.
On the left hand side at the front of the camera you will find the flash.
Looking at the top panel you will find the Power button and also the zoom button which operates the 5x optical zoom. It is here you will also find the button to press to take a photo.
The back of the camera has an impressive 2.7" LCD screen which shows the image in a beautiful crystal clear way. On the right of the screen are numerous buttons which allow you to access the different actions/modes of the camera.
Pressing the MENU button will take you through to the menu options which is where you can change different things. The first is -
Shooting - You can change your photo sizes here, the options are
Sound - You can change the sounds your camera makes here. This is for the shutter sound, start screen etc.
Display - There are a few features here in which you can personalise the camera to your taste.
* Function Description
* Start Image
* Date/Time Display
* Display Brightness
* Quick View
* Power Save
Settings - It is here you can format the camera, reset to factory settings, change the language, there are over 30 different languages to choose from, and more.
The next button is the MODE button. Pressing this will take you into a different menu screen and it is here you can change all the photo options.
You will find the option to take Live Panorama shots where you scan the camera over a long distance taking in the whole view, to do this you simply have to follow the instructions on the camera and click the photos within the given frame to keep it all even. It's really effective and gives a great finish.
There's also the Scene mode where you can add frames, funny face, add text plus more.
And also change the camera into Movie mode where it acts as a video camera.
There are other features available on this too.
There is a circular button with four different options on that too and also the OK button in the centre of this. The circular button controls the -
* Shutter speed
* AF shots
Under this you will find the play button which allows you to look through all the photos you have taken and also a delete button.
It is a nice lightweight camera that I have found very easy to use.
A big plus for me is that it comes with a neat rechargeable battery pack so I don't need to keep buying batteries all the time! The charger is a multi cable which is also the data cable too for transering the data to the computer.
The battery compartment can be found on the underside of the camera.
The camera has a CCD sensor which allows you to take high quality photos even in low light situations and with the camera having a great 16.1MP resolution the images are of really amazing quality. The wide angled lens makes it brilliant for group shots and I found this brilliant on Christmas day when I was wielded with my camera taking photo's of everyone, everything and anything!
I have used the camera with the Smart Auto turned on as I want to get the right shot everytime and this really does work wonders. The camera scene detection technology can identify up to 16 different conditions allowing the camera to adjust to the correct settings for different photos.
Another thing I have used is the Magic Frame feature, there are 13 different frames to choose from but I really like the Old Album effect frame which takes the photo in a sepia colour, inside a frame surrounded by old fashioned cameras and the like, there's also a Newspaper effect where you can take the photo to look like it is on the front cover of a newspaper as well as Billbord effects, Old Film, Full Moon and more.
This is a nice way of customising your photos.
You also have the option of using a Beauty Shot which retouches the photo to smooth out any blemishes.
Funny Face allows you to stretch the photo and distort it and my children have found these photo's very amusing!
~ Using the camera ~
Even with all the different features available this camera is very simple and easy to use. Like I have said I use it in the Smart Auto mode and after using the frames and funny face modes I simply click back through the buttons until I get back to the start and click OK on the Smart Auto and the camera is ready then for use.
I charged the battery on Christmas morning for about 2 hours and then used it through the day, I then charged it again later that day for about 4/5 hours and I haven't needed to recharge it since despite using it everyday. I am forever taking photo's of the children and have hundreds saved on my computer, on memory cards, in albums and in various frames around the house. I have a nice photo collage on my landing wall comprising of many different photos of my children in a collection of different frames and I think it is such a lovely display.
~ Photo Quality ~
I took my memory card to my local Asda store and printed out a load of photos and I am very impressed with the quality of the photo's. They look really clear and perfect. I have nothing bad to say about this camera what so ever.
The screen shows the images in a crystal clear way and I am pleased to say that they look as goood when printed out as they do on the screen.
~ Other features ~
The camera has Smart Face Recognition and Face Tracking, this allows the camera to pick up on the favourite faces, your children for example, in a crowd and make them really stand out. You can choose which faces to use or the camera will pick up on the faces you have taken the most photos of.
It also has the Smart Album where it will organise your photos by type, date, colour, week, even face so you can easily find what you are looking for.
~ Overall ~
I am so happy that my mum bought me this camera, I didn't ask for a camera, and I didn't know I was getting a camera but my mum certainly made a good choice with this.
My mum knows that I like to keep my camera handy and this small and compact little camera is perfect for slipping into my bag.
I love the pink and silver finish and I love how good the quality of the images are. It has lots of different features and is just generally a really great camera.
~ Price & Availability ~
I got this as a gift so I am unsure as to how much it cost or where it was purchased, however after looking online I can see that it is availble from -
Curry's, Jessops, Amazon, Sainsburys, PC World, Tesco plus many more. It can generally be bought for around the £50 - £60 mark.
Thanks for reading :o) x
