Premium Review Sony set new budget D-SLR benchmark (604 words)

If you are looking for an entry level Digital SLR camera I would say that you can do no better than the Sony Alpha 200. Recently I was looking to purchase a digital SLR after my Canon EOS 650 started to develop a sticky shutter. Looking around for a beginners Digital SLR, the choice for me was between the Nikon D60 and the Canon EOS 400D. I always thought my preference would be for the Canon. Looking around at prices, I found this, and £100 cheaper than the other two I had to take a look. Sony themselves are relative newcomers to the digital SLR market, though they ve been producing lenses for years in their camcorder range. Sony is a name everyone knows from other ...

kit lenses. I bought the 18-70, which was the starter lense that suited my needs best. Sony manufacture the CMOS imaging chip, which they also supply to Nikon for the D700. This demonstrates Sony s technological value compared to the usual Canon/Nikon pair, and proves there are alternatives. Cameras are subjective, and anyone looking to purchase should try handling as many as possible to see ...

in the photography world had expected to happen a long time ago and a lot had feared the day it did happen too. The reason many photographers feared Sony entering the DSLR market is simply that it would be hard not to get drawn into what they had to offer but they feared that Sony might find the market too challenging and bale out leaving many photographers with cameras that they could not upgrade and would struggle to find lenses and accessories for. When buying a point and shoot camera you are spending in the region of between 100 and 200 pounds for a top of the range model, whilst when purchasing a DSLR camera you could be looking at spending twice or three times ...
