If you are looking for an entry level Digital SLR camera I would say that you can do no better than the Sony Alpha 200. Recently I was looking to purchase a digital SLR after my Canon EOS 650 started to develop a sticky shutter. Looking around for a beginners Digital SLR, the choice for me was between the Nikon D60 and the Canon EOS 400D. I always thought my preference would be for the Canon. Looking around at prices, I found this, and £100 cheaper than the other two I had to take a look. kit lenses. I bought the 18-70, which was the starter lense that suited my needs best. I also purchased a Minolta 50mm f1.7 and Minolta 70-200 lense from eBay as Sony bought Minolta and so use their lense mount. This gives a good choice of high quality and low cost lenses from the second hand market, which makes up for the lack of Sony lenses compared to other makes. Sony manufacture the CMOS imaging chip, which they also supply to Nikon for the D700. This demonstrates Sony s technological value compared to the usual Canon/Nikon pair, and proves there are alternatives. For a while now I have been receiving private mails on both Dooyoo and on Ciao asking me to review the Sony A200 DSLR camera, this is because I have made mention of it in a few of my camera reviews lately but never actually got down to doing a full write up on it. I haven t reviewed it previously for a couple of reasons mainly though that I had up until now only had a few hours experience of the unit.
