Having used this camera quite a while now at work I thought that I should share my thoughts of it online.
Its not the best camera I have ever used or the most advanced, but it does the job. Its good value for money considering it is a Sony Cybershot and the specification of it isnt too bad.
Its 7.2 Mega Pixels is pretty average, and not too bad for the price, it also has a Super HAD CCD Sensor and High resolution so the actual quality of the pictures isnt too bad, and its only been when I've been taking photos of something intricate or blowing photos up that i've noticed the difference in picture quality.
There is no viewfinder which can be a bad thing when your trying to take a photo in bright sunlight and cant see the screen, but on the upside the screen is a nice and big 2.4" which allows you to view the image in usual circumstances in pretty good clarity. It also means you can see the menu and what your doing as opposed to squinting at a tiny screen.
The optical zoom isnt a huge deal, again as with most compact digital cameras its only 3x, but if your buying this entry level camera to begin with it would more than likely suffice.
The functions are really easy to navagate between as they are on a little wheel with symbols illustrating what they represent. Functions include; High Sensitivity, Program Auto, Movie Mode, Snow, Beach, Twilight, Twilight Portrait, Landscape, Soft Snap, and the one most oftenly used Auto Audjustment.
One good thing about the movie mode is that it does ahve sound which is not as common as you would think and is a bonus at this such low price.
The menu option is again easy to navagate giving you options for set up, with red eye reduction options, auto review, and the options to format the memory.
The actual internal memory is a pithy 22MB which doesnt allow you to store very many photos so a memory card is a must. The camera takes an Memory Stick Duo, Pro Duo, or Pro Duo High Speed. Whilst memory cards have come down considerably in price, the memory stick itself is still more expensive than your average SD Card.
It takes two AA batteries, which can be a good thing as they are a lot easier to replace if your not in a position to charge a lithium battery up, and to save with costs you can purchase rechargeable AAs.
Overall a fairly good entry level camera, I know the camera retails at £65 I manage dto pick one up a bit cheaper online.
Before i bought this camera i had one of the early Kodak digital cameras but it finally let us down after being dropped once to often.
The biggest differance was the size, the Sony Cyber shot was so much smaller and it felt very high quality.
We also went from 4 megapixels to 7.2 megapixels and that was the biggest differance of all. We bought it about two years ago and it served us well.
The battery life lasts really long as well which is great especially if you are out and about and dont have time to charge up.
I am a member of the Flikr website and i have a number of good photos from it on my Flikr website. Although i have a new camera now its a great camera for the basics.
The only disadvantages are that its easy to accidently change the settings and miss out on a good phoyo oppertunity without noticing.
I have owned this camera for over a year and it has done the job well. I recorded a few videos and uploaded the to youtube easily. It's not the best of quality but that is what you would expect from a 7.2mp camera. It is very easy and simple to use and takes nice quality snaps. they can sometimes be a bit yellow but apart from that they look very nice. the design is sleek and silver and has a decently sized 2.4" lcd screen. It is fantastic value for money and if you want a 7.2 mp camera then this is definately the one to buy. It takes SD cards up to 8gb which is plenty for photos of this quality. unfortunately the battery life can get annoying sometimes but it is still a great camera. It will take perfect pictures of your holidays and you can easily upload them to your computer. It has defiantely been a good camera for me and im sure if you need one then this is what you want. Overall i would rate this camera a 7/10. It is the best value camera in its range and has loads of great features but the battery life is not long enough. Remember, It's never too late to rate.
I bought a Sony Cyber-shot when my previous, well loved camera, was dropped and sadly broke, so the Cyber-shot had a lot to live up to. In some areas, it succeeded. In others, it didn't.
The Cyber-shot is visually pleasing with a slick chrome finish and easy to use click wheel at the top of the camera to allow you to alternate between a variety of pre set photo settings such as 'twilight' and 'snow'. The preview screen on the back is a decent size for viewing the pictures you've taken, and the lens retracts into the body of the camera which prevents it being damaged, with an automatic lens cap that closes when the camera is switched off to prevent scratching.
Nevertheless, I've found with the Cyber-shot, that picture quality is often hit and miss. Sometimes, despite waiting a reasonable amount of time for the camera to focus, and using the correct light settings, the picture can appear excessively blurred, or will react to light in unexpected ways by bleaching the colour of the photograph. Sometimes the reaction time between pressing the button to take the picture, and the actual action of the camera is excessively long - too long than you would expect people to pose naturally, or to capture a candid moment.
This camera is good for general use, but don't expect miracles from it. The results can sometimes vary for no discernible reason.
I wanted to buy a gift for my mum for christmas and this seemed like a good choice. She really wanted a camera that took great photos, but i didn't want to spend a fortune and i doubted that my mother would be able to use all of the features available. I was certainly not disappointed with this model. The design is very nice and i felt that the camera fit well in my hands. Sometimes cameras can be a little flimsy and don't feel too solid, but this was just right. The only thing that was a little disappointing was the zoom function as I feel it lacked some detail, on the other hand I don't think that the user it was intended for will particularly be using that feature so it wouldn't be an issue anyway! I would recommend this for people who want to take photos without a huge cost.
The cable that comes with the camera makes it really easy to upload your photos onto the computer and is easy for a beginner to do. Another problem I have been having with this camera is that it can be a little fiddly to change the flash settings.
I was advised to buy this Sony camera and I was very much hoping it would live up to expectations, especially as it was a gift for someone. It wasn't and it has been sensational. talk about great value for money, value and ease of use which is exactly what I was looking for. Style and quality of construction play a major part as is always evident with Sony products. There really are no negatives with this product. This is a great product:
7.2 megapixels which is high quality.
2.4 inch LCD screen with wide viewing angle
High Sensitivity ISO 1250 for improved shooting in poor light.
Easy to use on screen function guide
3x optical zoom lens
Overall this is a great camera and even for beginners and people new to digital camera photography, the functions like flash, macro and self timer settings are so easy to use. Also there is on screen advice to help you select the right settings for your chosen subject as selected with the shooting mode dial.
It's worth buying.
I am writing this review as i own this camera from last 2 years and i am satisfied from its results.
The model is very sleek and comfortable to carry anywhere, also the functions can be easily understood by any new person using it. The LCD Screen is 2.4 inch wide and the there is 3x optical lens provided with zoom facility at top right from where near or far away pictures could be easily set viewing them onscreen.
The model is of 7.2 megapixel( megapixel is term from computer science used to signify the discrete component of any picture by its resolution, the higher the resolution the clearer would be the picture). The battery life is also good, once charged runs for enough time.
The memory is of 22 Mega bytes which is enough to store routine memorable pictures and videos and also a code for USB is given with it so that it can be esaily transfered to computers and pendrives and then its memory could be again used initially. There is a faclility to quickly delete an unwanted or blurr picture to save the memory.
There are different mode sets given which could be adjusted according to low, medium or high light available.
Overall a good digital camera to buy
My last camera was a Sony and I was very much anticipating buying this camera and was not dissapointed. The emphasis here is firmly placed on value and ease of use which is exactly what I was looking for. Style and quality of construction play a major part as is always evident with Sony products. There really are no clear negatives with this product, although it could deal with having a lithium battery which would make long term costs cheaper, however I will list the postive features below that I enjoyed about this product.
7.2 megapixels which is high quality although not as high as my other digital camera which is Kodak with 10.2 megapixels.
2.4 inch LCD screen with wide viewing angle
High Sensitivity ISO 1250 for reduced camera shake
Easy to use on screen function guide
3x optical zoom lens
Overall this is a great camera and even for beginners and people new to digital camera photography there is guides for functions like flash, macro and self timer settings. Also there is on screen advice to help you select the right settings for your chosen subject as selected with the shooting mode dial.
I recently purchased the Sony Cyber-shot DSC-S730/S and so far am very pleased with it. The picture quality is superb and every single picture that I have took with it has been high quality on the camera, computer and as a print. It is very user friendly and there are lots of adjustments and functions in the various modes that the camera has. I have found that the lens is of a exceptional standars as with most of the sony cameras and the display on the screen is crisp and detailed. Shortly after the purchase I entered a photography competition with the camera and am delighted to say that I won £200! I have had no problems with the camera except on the lid of the compartment that houses the camera lead connections has stuck a few times and can be difficult to open. Other than that I am extremely pleased with my purchase and would highly recommend the camera.
SONY The brand name is enough to buy its product.SONY CYBER-SHOT DSC -S730/S model is a fantastic camera with user friendly features like its optical zoom 3 x-supported memory,MS Duo,MS PRO Duo,with great n sharp picture quality.it is a great camera and I like it very much.
I think that the best thing about it is the picture quality..I am not that great with a camera, but the picture quality is excellent (over 7megapixels) and this means that I always have great photos! The camera is quite small and light, a compact shape and easy to carry and not too expensive,I have used CANON POWER SHOT camera several times in the past but I decided on SONY this time,as I am not dispointed by this decision.the result are absolutely perfect each time you use it,The menu buttons for all the functions can be easily located without even refering to the camera manual.
I would recommend the camera to anyone who has used other good brands or to even those who have never used one before. It is very convenent and easy to handle for any one in the family.
Its really a good one.
The Sony Cyber-shot DSC-S730/S is a 7.2 effective megapixel camera; has a 2.4-inch LCD screen with wide viewing angle; and has features such as high sensitivity ISO 1250 for reduced camera shake, 3x optical zoom lens and easy-to-use on-screen function guide.
The camera is the lightest, most compact and easiest to use out of all the digital camera i have used.. While it's remarkably affordable, the Cyber-shot S730 doesn't let you down on the image quality. Theres a Sony 3x optical zoom lens to bring distant objects closer, while pictures captured with the 7.2 effective megapixel sensor look crisp with superb detail - even when blown up to A3 size.
lets you grab clear, blur-free pictures without the aid of flash if you're shooting in low light or on cloudy days. Selecting 'High Sensitivity' mode on the easy-to-adjust mode dial boosts sensitivity to ISO 1250. This allows shooting at faster shutter speeds to reduce the risk of camera shake, even with moving subjects.
Even if you're new to digital photography, the Cyber-shot S730 guides you with a handy display of functions like flash, macro and self-timer settings. There's also on-screen advice to help you select the right settings for your chosen subject as selected with the Shooting Mode dial.
The Cyber-shot S730 can even help beginners pick the optimum image size for shooting, depending on your preferred printing paper size and the amount of memory space remaining.
I absolutely love this camera. It is the first digital I have ever owned and at the time of purchasing I had no idea what made digital cameras high quality. I was advised by a Currys member of staff that this was the camera to own. He was so right. I was a little worried at first, as the camera is so slim and small, but a lot of good comes in a little package!
The best thing about the camera is that you can basically point and shoot and get a good image almost every time. There are a number of options available to novices like me: options like pets and kids function, which will make sure that you don't miss faster moving objects. There is red eye correction available and the ability to 'fix' the colour of your pictures or even turn them sepia or black and white.
Different modes of shooting (such as 'portrait' or 'kids and pets')are availble to access via an easy menu system. The mode is then shown in an icon in the corner of the viewing screen. You can also switch to a 'macro' mode which takes photos close up rather than at a distance.
If you want to adjust the photo, for instance, increase the red colouring in a photo to enhance a sunset perhaps, this can be achieved in a few clicks of the menu button. The camera saves your new, adjusted picture as well as keeping the original.
The camera comes with computers software which I find very easy to use. Basically, once the camera is plugged into your computer the software program opens automatically. Only one button needs to be pressed on the camera for your photos to be downloaded.
It really is a fabulous camera for beginners or for families who don't want to fuss around and I am impressed by the quality of my pictures. I've even managed to take mega-close ups of insects with this camera, which I never thought would be possible with such a tiny model!
I bought this camera as one of the first that I had, because of the recommendations of my friends, and I can concur with the other reviewers on here- it is a great camera and I like it very much. I think that the best thing about it is the picture quality. I am not a professional photographer, I just take photos for holidays and things, and I am not that great with a camera, but the picture quality is excellent (over 7megapixels) and this means that I always have great photos! The camera is quite small and light, a compact shape and easy to carry and not too expensive, and if you are an amareur photographer like me, and those things are important to you (and lets face it, good picture quality is the most important thing in a camera), then I can highly recommend this one. Sony is a trusted brand too, which gives one extra confidence in the product!
Love this camera! Bought the Sony Cyber-shot as my first digital camera and I'm sticking with it. Great picture quality, the zoom is pretty powerful. Long battery life, even at high altitude, took this camera trekking in Nepal in freezing temperatures and my battery never dropped below half full whilst everyone else's had run out. Nice big clear screen, really simple to use. The video function is good too, captures a lot of detail and the audio recording is great for a little camera. I've used the video function indoors and outdoors on nice sunny days and am really please with both, the quality is certainly as good as a lot of the more expensive video cameras around. You do need a memory card as the camera itself won't hold that much but can pick one up for next to nothing now. The night mode and snow mode are actually pretty good, I just used the 'auto' setting at first until someone taught me to be a little more creative.
The cybershot was my first digital camera and I have been hugely impressed. We have used it for photos and video, managing to capture amazing stills of the Northern Lights, which the tour guides were astounded at, as usually only professional photographers manage to capture them. We've filmed while skiing, while in humid conditions, in bright light, dark light.. I could go on! This really is an outstanding and easy to use camera. Having never used a digital camera before, both my husband and I took to this one quickly and without having to read the manual (always a bonus!!) I would highly recommend it. I have also tried other cybershots and generally speaking you can't go wrong with them. There is a good size preview screen in case you need it but we have had such amazing photos from the camera, there isn't much editing you need to do.
The DSC-S730 is a great value entry model to the exciting world of Cyber-shot photography. It is asy to use with high sensitivity for clearer pictures in low light.
