      the king of cameras! This camera is just unbeatable, you just cant beat its picture quality of the sony its just the best brand producing the best camera on the market. Ok you might be sitting there thinking well I could go and buy a Samsung or a canon which have got more megapixels but if you think about three quarters of the pictures you take you don't need fifteen megapixels anyway , and your pictures wont look bad with this! It is a good looking camera albeit a bit too light and delicate but once you've got a case for it you can stop worrying! the clear high definition display really does look great though and does your photos justice, its quite smart as well with the panorama mode it is great if you're taking a picture of a landscape or a wide space. If you're looking at cameras don't think twice about this one , its worth every penny!

      You start to notice time slipping by and the children growing up, it seems all the more important to capture those special moments in film and have something to hold on to. I have a terrible memory so I love having photos around the house and in albums to remind me of special events and happy times that I have shared with friends and family. In my lifetime I have seen cameras come on in leaps and bounds, I can remember the first one I owned it was absolutely humongous and the pictures were printed small with curved corners. They have a lovely hue about them but they were not very true to life. These days cameras seem to capture life as accurately as the human eye and every colour, mark or detail is captured beautifully in the click of the shutter.

      The camera was bought to upgrade our old camera that kep breaking and switching This seemed to offer a lot for the money and although my head told me to buy a new camera in the post Christmas sales, my heart told me I needed a new camera and I needed one now! Luckily, my husband decided to treat me to an early Christmas present so I could get used to it nicer and early and then hopefully take some lovely pictures on Christmas and boxing day as we moved around the family and visited friends.

      ==COST==

      The camera is not the newest Sony Cyber-shot on the market and for this reason it is priced attractively at around £90. I like the brand name and I like the style of the camera but I was not desperate to get the latest model as this far outshines it in terms of value for money. The spec is very similar to the new models and when comparing image quality in the store, I could not find too many differences. Scouting the web today reveals the camera to be £83.19 on Amazon which is cheaper than the price my husband paid.

      ==DOWN AND DIRTY WITH THE CAMERA==

      In the box you get the following: Rechargeable Battery Pack, Battery Charger, Multi Connector Cable, Power Cord, Wrist Strap, CD-ROM. What I most liked about the camera is how small it was and how exceptionally light it felt. I would not go as far as saying the camera feels cheap, but it certainly lacks that feeling of sustenance you get from a nice weighty piece of equipment. It just feels like there is not much to it, but then who wants to carry a breeze block with them all day. No the size and weight is definitely a bonus as it makes it much easier to hold the camera still for pictures and it also makes it much easier to carry around in a bag. The exterior chassis of the camera is matt black which looks nice against the bright silver buttons but it looks slightly plasticy which ruins the overall aesthetics for me. The lens and the zoom barrel are finished in silver metal too which makes the camera look more attractive and well built. The 5 x optical zoom means the zoom barrel extrudes quite far from the base and it is quite impressive to see such a large optical zoom on such a small camera.

      The 2.7" LCD screen is housed at the rear of the camera and nestled into the frame of the camera. I wanted a large screen so I could see exactly what the image was like that I had taken. In inside conditions the screen is light and bright and of exceptional quality. You would be happy with the quality of screen on your television for example, it is very good. I have played the photographs on a slideshow on the screen and it was fantastic, really bright and crisp images. The only downside to the screen though is that outside, it is less impressive. We took it outside on Christmas day and the light was bright due to the sun being out and quite low. Our granddaughter had a new bike and we wanted to snap her taking her first try of the new toy. The screen was distorted by the bright light and the image quality was very different to when I viewed the pictures inside. I can live with this but I must say that I expected slightly more from the camera.

      In terms of working your way around the camera, the shutter button is on top of the machine which makes for easy snapping and shooting. The other main controls are on the panel next to the LCD screen. From top to bottom, the buttons include a: Zoom toggle button which blows up or decreases the image size on the screen. Next is the still/ sweep panoramic/ movie selection flick switch so you can toggle between modes. Next is the Playback button which flicks from shoot mode to slideshow or viewing screen. The main control is the four way push control pad surrounding the OK button. This can be used to flick though pictures, toggle with the flash and also set up timer mode. It is mulit-functional depending on the mode you select. The last two buttons at the bottom of the control panel are the menu button and the delete button. The important aspect of the digital camera is that you can delete any horrendous pictures before you decide to print. Horray! All buttons and controls are exceptionally easy to push and control and they feel positioned in quite natural places that are easy to reach.

      ==BATTERY LIFE, FUNCTIONS AND SET UP==

      One of the boxes to tick when selecting a camera was that I wanted a rechargeable battery and full sized SD cards to store my movies and pictures as I already had quite a few to use with the camera. The camera will take a variety of SD cards, SDHC and SDXC cards. The camera comes with 27MB of built in memory. This equates to 3 practice photographs. I wanted a rechargeable battery to save money so I was pleased to see this camera equipped with a li-on slim rechargeable battery and charging pack. It takes around 4 hours to achieve full charge and this gives 230 still photographs or 90 minutes of video. You can buy spare batteries to go with this camera but you can only use Sony ones so they are priced quite highly. With my usage, one battery is enough. The charging lead is portable and small so you can take it without wherever you go so that you do not run out of charge.

      The camera is quick to set up and I only had to flick through the manual to get a hang of the design and how to use the camera. The main setting that I leave the camera on is the Intelligent Scene recognition. The camera automatically detects light and scene set up so that it switches its focus and depth of field depending on how close the subject is and the conditions around. This means that a trained monkey could pick up the camera and achieve good little pictures with it. You can turn this mode off though and then select the predetermined settings such as portrait, night scene, landscape and many others. The camera also has face detection and this works with up to eight different faces on the screen. This helps to reduce red eye and helps to keep faces in screen and stop blurring. Smile detection which has three settings is a slight improvement on face detection and it keeps faces bright and concentrates the focus on people rather than the whole frame around them.

      One of the interesting features and one I have just gotten used to on my iphone 5 is the sweep panoramic where you can take a series of pictures and have them seamlessly sewn together so you get a fantastic Bayeux Tapestry effect image that is full of all the detail surrounding you.

      ==PICTURE AND VIDEO QUALITY==

      In terms of picture quality, I find this averages out at an okay little camera. On the whole it takes quite nifty little pictures but the 14.1MP does not give the sort of high quality resolution that I expected. Colours are vivid and bright and when the photo is taken in bright day light you get good results but when we were taking photos around the dinner table, photos were dark and the slightest of movement of the subject created a blur on the screen. We tried to take photos of the children with their new bikes in front of the Christmas tree and they were captured nice and brightly but the background was completely lost. Similarly when we took them kids outside, we just could not take good pictures of them riding their bikes and scooter, it was just a blur. We had slightly better results with the video capture but this is certainly not HD quality film. It has a very amateur feel with 320x240 at 30fps resolution. It picks up sound well and for those moments you have to capture you can click the switch and start recording but I will not be using this feature unless it is a video emergency. Videos are shaky, blurry and dark and dingy.

      ==FINAL THOUGHTS==

      I like the camera but if I had my chance to buy again, I would not get this one. It makes for very easy picture taking, you can pick it up and anyone can manage to take a half decent picture but I just wanted something a little better quality. I feel slightly let down by the image quality and wish that I had chosen a better camera. It was not the cheapest camera on the market so I expected more from it. If you want a camera that gives average results that is really easy to use then this will be fine for you. It is light, easy to use and has a large good quality LCD screen. If you want a camera that is good quality and gives better results then you will have to look elsewhere. I feel disappointed with the amount of money I paid for this camera but it's done now and I do have some nice family pictures to show for it.

      Advantages

      Disadvantages

      I've had this camera a few months now and although it takes good pictures, it has become increasingly slow at taking the shot. Sometimes it has been so slow that we have missed the moment or the object we were trying to capture. I have always been a fan of Sony but since experiencing this, I feel there are better cameras on the market.

      Advantages

      Disadvantages

      A good overall camera

      Under no circumstances do I profess to be the next David Bailey; I do like a good camera though to capture those all important moments that we will treasure in years to come. Likewise, I am in constant search of that perfect image to print, frame and have hanging proudly on my living room wall. Much to the dismay of proffessional photographers I'm sure, I feel the need for them is dwindling in this day and age - with modren technology and cameras such as this one, the average person (potentially) has the ability to create an almost professional looking photograph without the need to re-mortgage the house!

      Easy as ABC

      The ease of use is one of the most important aspects of this camera to me. Unfortunately, I do not have the required patience to sit and read through a hefty instruction manual and identify all the different components and functionalities of the camera. Admittedly if I did, I would surely benefit more in the long run but I like to get on with snapping pictures and learn the rest through trial and error along the way. The buttons along the top panel simply consist of an on/off switch and the capture button - easy peasy. It has a lovely large display to see the pictures you are about to take and to view pictures already taken, with the option to scroll through them and delete any if desired. There are 11 different settings on a dial that you can choose from in order to get the perfect image depending on conditions, including a selection from 'twilight', 'beach', 'snow', 'landscape' 'soft background' and it also gives a brief explanation of the situation in which this setting would be best. A really good thing I found is the 'movie' setting. With this you can make short videos that you can view on the camera and transfer to your computer just the same as a standard photograph. There is also a timer function available so no more giving your precious camera to strangers and hoping they don't make a run for it in order to take a picture of yourselves. There is a switch that gives the option to zoom in or out on an image which is great as it means you do not have to get too close to your subject - very helpful in certain circumstances!

      A sleek snapper

      This is a good looking camera. It is silver in colour and a small, sleek, sophisticated piece of kit. The size of it is quite surprising really considering the amount of functions it is capable of performing, but then again this is the case in many new items of technology. It is therefore lightweight so is easy to carry round for a spur of the moment snap - much faster than fiddling round on your mobile phone trying tofind your camera application, by which time the object in question to photograph has normally vanished! The lens at the front automatically extends when the camera is switched on and retracts when switched off, which keeps it safe and tidy too. As I mantioned, the screen to view photos on is of a good ssize which is helpful.

      A lasting impression

      Not only can the camera give you many high qaulity lasting impressions, the Sony Cybershot is one in itself. I personally have had mine for approximately 4 years and I have never had a problem witth the mechanisms of it. It may be quite small but it has had it's fare share of drops, scrapes and has survived many a bumpy ride in the bottom of my handbag. It cost about £120 new so is probably a bit dearer now but I think it is worth it. It doesn't require batteries, it comes with a charger insid which can be inserted into the carger tha it comes with, plugged in, and it's ready to go again when the light turns green; ence there are no expensive batteries to keep replacing.

      Slight niggle

      My only criticism, which is slight, is that just occasionally there is a slight delay of approx 1-2 seconds when presing the capture button to take the photo. This doesn't happen often but when it does it is frustrating as the moment I wanted to capture can have changed in the tme it has taken to take the picture. However, this has never caused me any major issue as it happens so infrequently.
      I would recommend this camera for anyone who wants what a camera should do and more. Perhaps the more serious photographer would want a camera with even more functions but it is ideal for my needs

        Thanks for Reading :)

        I have used many Sony electrical products in the past and have always been impressed with their high standards of quality. From TV's, Sony PS3, too music systems are just a few of the Sony electrical items I have bought that have lasted me years without developing any faults. Therefore I when it came time to purchase a new digital camera, I knew Sony would be one of the brands that would be on the top of my list when searching for a new one.

        I do already have a camera phone, however although it does take a good standard array of pictures, I was still not 100% satisfied and wanted to purchase a good quality camera that has slightly more features available when taking and editing pictures.

        I purchased the Sony Cyber-shot DSC-W510 from the Amazon website for around £65. I got the black coloured camera, but I have seen it available in silver and pink colours as well. As there are newer version of the above camera available, I believe the price will drop in price a bit more so it is worth looking around the web for some good prices and deals.

        == Design ==

        The camera is a nice size (only 2.5 cm wide). and compact so it easy to carry around. It is fairly lightweight so I was able to hold it with one hand easily without feeling any pressure or much weight on my hands (only weighs 120g).

        The camera does look very modern and sleek, with the lens sitting into the silver metallic frame nicely, which looks great with the black contrasting colour of the camera. Although I do own the black coloured version, I can imagine the pink one looking very funky and snazzy too, but I am not sure my partner would like carrying around a girly looking pink coloured camera! So I opted for the black version.

        == Features ==

        The picture quality is top notch, the camera has 12.1 megapixels which really does mean your getting good amount of details in your pictures. It has a 4x optical zoom, and I found that really helps take those extra special precision shots, and with the added wide angle shots you can take nice wide angle shots as well. These two features are great for taking group photos, zooming in without loosing quality which is what you tend to get with some other cameras.

        The camera also has face detection features that allow you to take good people pictures, as well as being able to change face detection between adult and child easily. One of the best features of this camera is the iAuto feature, which automatically amends contrast and colours and setting so that the best possible pictures can be taken. I love this feature, as I am not really that much of a technical person, so having the camera do all the work for me and have great end results is brilliant.

        There is also a neat little feature called Sweep Panorama mode, which enables great landscape pictures to be taken as well as a taking a number of pictures similar pictures to be taken but all at different angles. This really brings out the best of the photos, and you can't really complain about your picture not showing your best angle!

        The video record feature is also of a high standard, I have taken a number of videos and all have come out looking great with no fuzziness or blurriness to worry about (which is what I tend to get with my phone camera). The sound playback is also great, loud enough to hear comfortably. The good thing about this is that all your pictures and videos can be viewed on your TV thanks to the av cable connection. This means all the high quality videos and photos can be viewed with ease by the whole family while sitting in the sofa having a cup of tea. Connecting the device to the TV couldn't be easier, all you need to do is plug in the AV cable in the correct socket on the back of the TV and the pictures/videos are ready for playback.

        The camera comes with software that is simple to install onto a PC or Mac computer, it took me a minute to install the software which is really quick in my opinion. Using the SD card that stores all the cameras photos, you simply insert it into your pc SD slot and your off to go. If you do not have a SD slot on the laptop then not to worry, you can use a standard cable that comes included in the camera box.

        The photos are simple enough to transfer onto your computer thanks to the software screen that is very user friendly and straightforward to follow. I found photos and videos transferred really fast onto my computer and I was very pleasantly surprised as I don't have the fasted PC! The process is even faster when I was using the SD slot as it doesn't require any software to recognise the camera and instead I just copy and pasted the photos I wanted into the computer picture folder. I would have to use the cable method only when using my partners computer as his does not have a SD slot while my Laptop does, but overall the SD method is so much faster.

        The menu is very user friendly, modes can be changed easily by a click of a button. The menu allows you to lock certain photos so that they are not deleted accidently, which is great as it keeps those sentimental pictures secure and safe. Of course it also has the option to delete pictures that are not wanted, and again is very simple to do by clicking on the delete button.

        ==Recharging ==

        The camera has a rechargeable battery that is easy to remove and insert. I much prefer having a rechargeable battery than having to buy batteries every other week, as these cameras do use a lot of power so ordinary batteries really wouldn't last very long. It takes a couple of hours to fully charge the battery, however I was pleased to find that the camera could be used for about 3 days until the battery indicator would show meaning it needed to be charged.

        == Overall==

        I would recommend this Sony Cyper-shot camera as it is very easy to use as the camera does all the hard work for you and is great for beginners or non-technical people like me. It takes great photos and high quality videos, and for the price you are getting a good long lasting quality camera.

        Perfect size, memory, battery life and easy to use!

        I received the Sony Cyber shot camera as a gift for my birthday - picked by my boyfriend, who has thankfully picked a camera that looks cool!
        I have taken this camera with me on many trips/holidays and considering we both have phones that take pretty good pictures we have actually used this camera much more than I anticipated I would have done.

        The camera is a perfect size for fitting neatly into clutch bags, handbags and the boyfriends jean pocket! The quality of the images have so far been excellent and the ones we have had printed look brilliant - no awful pixelation and plenty of quality on the colour.
        This camera is very easy to use - nothing over complicated and I must say the battery is shockingly brilliant! I took the camera out for 3 days in a row - I must have taken near enough 300 pictures and it still had battery life left!
        If you want a no fuss, easy to use trendy looking camera I couldn't recommend a better camera! But if you are looking for something quite advanced that you can do some ever so slightly over the top images and zooming then this camera is not for you.

        A great little camera

        I have just come back from holiday in Italy and took my Sony Cyber-shot DSC-W510 camera with me. I must admit that since owning an iPhone where I have a camera constantly with me I rarely use a separate camera, but I wanted to on holiday as it is better quality and also I would not be worried about losing my phone while I was travelling around.

        The Sony Cyber-shot DSC-W510 has an impressive range of features that make it easy to use. The camera has 12.1 megapixels to take great quality pictures and a 4x optical zoom with wide angle so you get both a zoom and wide angle at the same time. One of the features I like the best is the iAuto feature which makes the camera decide on the best settings and contrasts for your picture without you having to worry about the right settings. This makes it ideal for a beginner. There is also a video feature and Sony's Sweep Panorama mode, which means you an take great pictures of landscapes.

        The version I have is a pale pink which looks lovely and one of the things I like best about the camera is that it is so compact and easy to carry around in your handbag or a pocket as it is only 2cm wide and weighs 120g.

        The camera easily switches between modes so you can view the photos you have taken and it is easy to delete those that you do not want to keep and to lock photos you do want to keep so they are not deleted by mistake. The software can be loaded to any computer including a Mac and it was easy to transfer the photos to my computer when I got back home via the cable provided.

        The camera has a rechargeable battery. I find that if you have not used it for a while this needs a full charge before you start to use the camera again, which takes a couple of hours. However the camera battery lasted an impressive 5 days while I was on holiday without a recharge (and I probably took over 200 photos) so I do think this is reasonable.

        I think that the quality of the photos produced are really good (although I am not a photography expert) and I am very happy with the results both on my computer and when they are printed. The price of the camera is about £70, which is really reasonable for the number of features that you get, and the fact that it is so easy to use. I would definitely recommend the camera for anyone who needs a cheap camera that can do everything that most amateur photographers need.

        Great compact digital camera, very easy to use.

        I found this camera very easy to use and the size was perfect to fit into pocket. The durability was also great having dropped it on a couple of occasions, it worked fine!
        The zoom is very good and focuses very quickly and the digital interface is very easy to use.
        I have had this camera for 5 years now and it is still going strong. The battery is rechargeable and easy to dismantle and fit into the loose charging pocket.
        The image quality is great, even now when higher MP cameras are available, this still looks modern and up to date. If you can buy this cheap you are getting an absolute bargain, I paid £99 around 5 years ago and have had repairs to it only once. This is the only disadvantage when the zoom is out, it is very delicate. I wouldn't force it back in if it sticks, try turning it on and off again and make sure the zoom is in if you are putting it into a bag or carry case.

        Advantages

        Disadvantages

        Pretty poor camera should invest in something else.

        This camera main benefit is its size and compactness. It's got a very small, sleek design perfect for fitting it in your pocket. when your out and about.

        The camera itself is pretty durable. One design flaw in this camera that I believe is the battery compartment cover, it seems as if it can easily come open.

        I feel that the options you get for taking pictures is pretty limited. I have even found this to be the case in the modes where picture settings can be adjusted, this sin't the case for other cameras in a similar price bracket. Obviously this will not be a major problem for those not wishing to adjust settings.

        I had mixed feeling when using the auto setting for taking photos. The programmable settings gave the same results, maybe a slight change but not much. In auto mode the camera would detect & select modes such as 'macro' incorrectly, this was a pain. Most of the photographs taken indoors even in good conditions gave poor results with photos being very unfocused at times.

        I think that when paying the asking price for this camera I would suggest to others that they should look into manufacturers such as canon and Fuji who specialize in photography. Overall this camera was a bit of a let down.

        A good camera for everyday use especially for family photos at a reasonable price

        I looked and researched the cheap digital camera market quite thoroughly and came to the decision of buying the Cyber-shot DSC-W510. At first I was hesitant as I thought the cheapness will defiantly affect the build and picture quality. Turns out I was totally wrong!!!!
        The camera has great picture and video quality. The picture quality is slightly disappointing when in poor lighting conditions but the flash deals with this quite nicely.
        I was also impressed with the ease of use as all the features are easily accessible with just a few steps. My favourite feature is the face recognition as it is very accurate and focuses the image very nicely. I found the screen size which is 2.7 inches big enough to easily look at the photos. The photo quality seems to be quite poor when viewing from the camera screen but when I use the computer the pictures become very clear due to the better screen.
        The battery life is quite impressive for average use as it lasts through 3 to 4 occasions. However, if you are a keener photographer then having two batteries would be ideal.
        The camera has I very robust build as it hasn't sustained a single scratch on the screen or elsewhere.

        I love this camera and would recommend it to everybody!

        I definitely have a love for taking quick photos without the hassle of carrying around a huge SLR. I received this camera for Christmas two years ago and it has worked great ever since. I have no idea how much this camera retails for, but I'm pretty sure the price would be worth the quality.

        I have broken 8 digital cameras in my short 18 years of life so I'm sure you can tell I am not easy on them by any means. This camera has lasted and i'm sure will continue to last for years to come. It has been dropped in a sink full of water, stepped on, dropped, and occasionally "tossed" and so far it has not broken. In fact, it still works as well as it did 2 years ago when it was given to me.

        I am not very technologically capable and I have been able to figure out the settings of the camera with ease. The settings are set up very well and in an organized manner. They are grouped in a sensible order that young people could even understand.

        The quality of the photos it takes are great. compared to my old facebook photos to now, the photos I have taken with this camera have a far better look. They are not pix-elated and the colors of the photos are vibrant and as close to life like as it gets. The only down side to the quality of photos take on this camera is that when the flash setting is used colors are way brighter than normal and skin is almost white. I mean, that happens with every camera in flash setting though... so who can complain?

        I am tempted to buy more...

        I received this camera for Christmas from my mother. She isn't a technology sort of person and I suspect she bought this because of its very low price. However, she made a fantastic decision!

        The Sony Cyber-Shot DSC-W510 gives amazing quality images without knowledge of photography needed. However, for those with more knowledge in the art, it offers additional features for them such as the ability to adjust the ISO manually.

        One of the things I usually dislike with cameras, even if the images produced being perfect, is the LCD screen used to frame the picture being too low resolution. The screen on this camera does not have this issue though. At 2.7" this screen is not the biggest I have seen but it is still a decent size but most importantly the preview is lovely and crisp.

        The camera has nice additional features to improve images such as face detection which although common on cameras now, I was expecting to be missing from the device due to the low price. I cannot understand how they saved on costs when making this, it is as good as cameras twice its price!

        The only issue I noticed with this camera is that although in bright light and in normal conditions the pictures were great, in low light they could sometimes be grainy. Solution, just use the flash!

        would recommend

        I got the Sony Cyber-shot DSC-W510 for my birthday in 2011 and i have had no problems with this camera, the opposite infact. The price is good and normal for this style of camera so I thought I recommend the camera as a good purchase, it Includes things like face and smile detection, panoramic picture mode and many more features to experiment with. The Steady shot stabilization is also a handy feature the camera has. I was very impressed by the quality of the pictures Takes very smooth, clean photos. The camera is very easy to use all you have to do is activate the camera and shoot, it is that simple. The camera is very small and light so easily fits in my bag and doesnt weigh it down which is great.
        I am not a camera expert but I would definatly recomend this camera to any of my friends or family.

          fine

          I was given the Sony DSC W510 for christmas in 2011 . The powerful camera is really more than what it looks like , i was very impressed by the quality of the pictures. Takes very smooth photos , quick and snappy! Small enough to fit in your handbag. It looks great as it is slim and sleek. This camera from sony does exactly what it says on the tin. For me when i used this product it did everything i could have asked for. The camera is amazing! Really easy to use, and understand. It has many, and even more features than I will require, but it does not overwhelm you! Activate the camera and you are ready to shoot. I really like that the camera is smart. I've never really bothered with buying a camera before as I just used my phone or iPod, even though the quality might not be as good as a proper camera.
