My first ever digital camera was a Sony cyber shot that I was lucky enough to win as a prize back in 2007. I was unfortunate enough to then have said camera stolen from me while on holiday in 2008, but none the less I loved this little camera and the quality of the photos impressed me enough to want another Sony. I am by no means a photography expert, so this review is from the point of view of a girl who just likes a camera to take photos on holidays, nights out and special occasions.
So first the specifications:
25mm wide angel Carl Zeiss lens
5x optical zoom
20 x digital zoom
The camera is available in 4 colours, silver, black, purple or pink. I choose the purple because the silver was out of stock at the time of purchase, I was worried that it would look a bit like a kids camera, but it is actually a nice shade of purple and I am glad I got it! I bought this camera at the beginning of August 2012 in Argos for the price of £139.99 which included the camera, a 4gb memory card and a case for the camera. A quick search tells me the camera alone can now be bought in Argos for £119.99, however I'm sure if you shopped around you could probably get it a bit cheaper.
Upon arrival the camera was nicely packaged in a box with the charger, the lead to attach it your computer and the instruction manual. I didn't bother with the instruction manual and just put the battery in the camera and switched it on. I found the camera really easy to set up, you simply put in the date and time and you are ready to start taking pictures. You can easily switch the flash to on, off or automatic depending on the time of day or night you are taking photos. The camera has other functions such as 11 different scene modes, smile shutter and self timer, but I have not used these much, being a simple point and shoot kind of girl!
One interesting function that I have used on the camera is the panoramic view shot. This allows you to point the camera and move it from side to side, the result is a panoramic photo. I found this ally great when on holiday for taking landscape photos where you wanted to get more into the picture than a normal shot would allow. This camera also allows you to take videos with sound.
One important factor for me when choosing a camera is I like one with a rechargeable battery. This camera came with a lithium battery and a charger. The battery life of the camera appears excellent, I took it on a weeks holiday and took around 200 shots and did not need to charge the camera during the holiday. The battery is really easy to pop into the charger and the charger is lightweight enough to take travelling with you.
One thing that really surprised about this camera is how small it was. It weights only 119g and is really lightweight. Despite being lightweight it still feels sturdy and of good quality, however I'm not sure it would withstand a drop onto the floor, sorry fellow DooYooers but I'll leave this up to you to try out for yourself!!
Last but not least, the quality of the photos. When viewing photos on the camera screen it is difficult to tell the quality of them, as the screen on the camera is quite small. However when I uploaded my photos onto my computer I could immediately see that the photos are of excellent quality. They are clear, crisp, and show every little detail. Even in a photo that has been zoomed in, the 16 megapixels allows for good quality.
Overall I am so pleased with this camera and hope it is one that I will own and use for at least a few more years. I would defintely recommend this to anyone who wants a basic camera that takes excellent quality photos.
Thanks for reading and I hope you enjoyed my review!
