I bought this cheeky wee camera a few years ago now...and still love it! It's incredibly easy to use for all those 'point and clickers' out there but also got lots of great features for the slightly more advanced photographer. The large screen is great for viewing pictures and the quality is great. There are loads of cameras out there with more megapixels but this on does the job! It's also very robust having survived being bashed about my bag as I take it everywhere i go - just the right size for slipping in one of the wee pockets you get inside bags!
The camera copes well with mishaps, it's been dropped on concrete, sand, puddles just about everything and still works like new!
I would recommend this camera to anyone!
Uploading pictures from camera to computer is very easy and can be done in different ways - using the USB cable to link or simply sticking the memory card into the slot (you may need a an adapter for the Memory Stick Duo to fit into the computer - but this came in my package)
You can also link it to your TV and watch slide shows of all your photos there. Videos are also great quality from this camera
All in a great camera!
This is a great little camera for general pocket use. The picture quality is not as good as you might get from a high end SLR but to say this is a pocket camera you really cant fault it. It is packed with features (most of which I dont understand and dont use) and is really well made. I usually just leave the camera in Auto mode as I am no pro photographer and my pictures always seem to come out well.
The rechargeable battery seems to last for ever and the camera is very simple to use. The zoom is fantastic and is very smooth, unlike cheaper camera's I have had where the zoom mechanism has been somewhat eratic.
The camera comes complete with a wrist strap which is handy if like me you are a little clumsy at times! The metal body gives a solid feel and I have dropped the camera a few times and it still works perfectly. As mentioned in other reviews though the plastic battery / memory card slot lets the body down a little.
I have been a Sony fan for many years now and with each Sony item I buy, I am pleasantly surprised at just how good they are. It started with the first version of the Playstation and the latest item I have got is the Sony Cyber-shot DSC-W80 7.2 Mega Pixel digital camera.
I don't need to brag about its fantastic value for money and its high specs, full HD, 7.2MP, ISO3200 etcetera etcetera. You can read all that on sites such as Amazon and Sony's site itself.
What you want to know is, how good is it. Well, good enough I believe!
So, you want to take photos? Well the Cyber-shot has nine pre-defined setting to aid you in getting the best photo for a certain situation. Auto-adjustment; High Sensitivity; Soft Snap; Twilight Portrait; Twilight; Landscape; Beach; Snow; and Program Auto. With each setting you have the ability to adjust the image size, face detection, "Record Mode" (whether to shoot once per press of the shutter or continuously as the shutter button is held), EV (brightness/darkness), Red Eye Reduction, and many more!
So, you want to capture a potential funny moment that is about to occur? No worries, just snap the wheel around to the Movie Mode and ka-boom you are ready! The camera function is quite simple fantastic when you take into account that the cameras primary function is to take photos. I have used mine at a lot of live concerts including Download Festival and been near the front. Despite the strobe lighting effects and loud music, the quality is amazing. The camera automatically adapts to the surroundings. The only issue I have with the video function is that you are unable to zoom whilst recording and also the microphone is placed on top of the camera by the shutter and power button, so you have to be careful not to cover it with your finger!
My partner and I take an obscene amount of photos and it was really important to us that we got a camera that was good quality, easy to use and good value for money.
We had a sony cyber shot before this model which was a cheaper one which eventually broke on us and we spent a LONG time deciding this was the camera for us!
I am more than impressed with every aspect of this camera. The images are super clear and there are a group of useful settings for taking images in snow, around water, in the dark, portrait pictures etc. This basically means you put it on the setting and it does the rest for you. There is also a setting that allows you to programme the camers yourself - we have this set to black and white to make a bit of a change!
the video is good quality also.
The screen is a good size so you can see clearly what you are taking a photo of or filming and the best thing is that there is not that long a pause between pressing the button and the picture being taken like in a lot of digital cameras.
Overall I would say this is great value for money.
Reason For Buying
My search for a digital camera began about a year ago when I decided that it was about time I invested in one rather than relying on dodgy mobile phone pictures!
What a minefield! I was originally looking at cameras with megapixels over 10 thinking that the higher the megapixels the better quailty of photo, I was assured I was wrong by an 'expert' friend of mine! I was informed that it was more the quality of the lens and the megapixels only really matter if you wanted to zoom in close on a photo.
I decided to look at the Sony cameras as this is a brand I trust as my TV and laptop are both Sony and I thought I would stick with what I knew. The Sony cameras also have Carl Zeiss lenses which I was advised were very good.
One of my other main reasons for choosing the Sony camera was the battery. The battery in this camera is a Lithium Ion and it lasts for ages before I have to charge it, in excess of 300 shots! A battery charger is supplied and all you need to do is remove the battery from the camera and place it into the mains powered charger.
- Super steady shot to help avoid blurry photos, handy if you don't have a steady hand!
- Face detection to focus the photo on faces rather that objects in background or foreground.
- 3x optical zoom
- Ability to retouch photos on the camera itself including red eye.
- High definition slideshow on the camera or play through your tv though the HD output.
- MPEG movie so you can record movies aswell as photos!
- Pictbridge so you can print direct to your printer without going through your pc.
A Few Technical Bits!
- 31MB internal memory (enough for about a dozen photos)
- Auto focus
- Red eye reduction
- Pre flash and auto flash
- LCD screen size 2.5 inches
- Weight 124g
- Size of camera 9.1cm x 2.3cm x 5.8cm
- Built in microphone
I paid approximately £120 for this camera about a year ago. After a quick search online the price for this camera now seems to range from £95 to £175! It just goes to show you really must shop around for everything!
Overall I think this is a really good value for money pocket sized camera. It's easy to use and has some great features.
The only thing that annoyed me was that it doesn't come with a case but I think that is quite common. I brought a leather case from Currys for about £10.
I am by no means an expert when it comes to cameras and photography but for every day photos I would definately recommend this camera!
I needed a digital camera to take pictures just around the house, so I didn't opt to buy an expensive SLR. This Cybershot DSC-W80 by Sony is a great point and shoot, and it's loaded with features to enhance your photos as well.
This camera is sturdy and can take a beating. The casing is made of metal, aluminum most likely, and I do believe there is a titanium version of this camera if you're willing to spend the extra $100. I have accidentally dropped this camera countless times and it always works just fine afterwards. My only complaint with it is the battery-compartment door, it's made of PLASTIC which has been chromed to match the other real metal accents on the camera. It is easy to operate but does feel brittle when you do so. It is spring-loaded so it pops-open easily when it is slid down. The door also hides where the MS DUO Pro Memory Stick is inserted (sold seperately).
The start-up time is like a second, as soon as you press the Power button, the lens extends and you're ready to shoot. It only takes slightly longer right after re-installing the recharged battery. Yes, it includes a nice little lithium ion battery and a recharger for it as well. Other notable accessories include a USB cable to upload pictures to your computer and a driver disk for the computer so you can use it.
This camera is great for taking pictures in almost any lighting condition thanks to the multiple shooting-modes, which can be easily changed at the flick of a thumb. It also has image stabilization so using a tripod isn't a necessity, but it does help reduce noise when shooting in darker settings. It also has Multi Auto-Focus which allows you to focus on up to 9 different objects in the frame! You can even record video with sound in High Definition! The 7.2 Megapixels definitely create wonderful quality images.
