Wow, I have no idea how something so small has so much power!
Having recently lost my long-serving Panasonic "point and shoot" compact camera, I decided to re-invest. My main camera is Canon DSLR, but I've aways had a compact camera. They're handy for sticking in your pocket, and recently my little boy has decided to try his hand at using one.
*18.2 megapixels. Now that's a lot. What does it give you? Well insanely crisp and sharp images, for one.
* 20x optical zoom. This is a huge selling point for me. With the 20x zoom, I've been able to get in closer than any camera I've had in the past. And because of the huge pixel rate the camera packs, the image quality stays very good.
*Compact design. This camera is tiny! Holding it in my hand for the first time, I realised it was only slightly longer than my fingers. Sure, this makes it a little fiddly to use for larger hands, but it also means it is lightweight and easy to store. Because of the compact design, it's a little hard to hold. Not only because of the size, but because all of the space on the frame itself is taken up. You'll find, when holding it, that your fingers are either on the screen, or on the back buttons.
*HD video. I've seen a lot of cameras sporting this feature of the past year or so, usually with below-par results. The video quality is good, but not excellent. Colours are a little flat, and in low light it looks a little grainy (which you wouldn't expect from High Definition). The sound quality is good though, really good in fact.
*3.0" LCD Display. The screen is crystal clear, and brighness is adjustable so its easy to playback your video and photos.
I've only been using this camera for a week or so, and haven't fully dived into all the functions and features of it. What I have been really impressed with though, are the follows:
1) Intelligent Sweep Panorama. I've never owned a Sony camera before, and I've been itching to have a go of this feature. It's really, REALLY good! To take a simple panoramic photo, you simply sweep the camera across the scene, and the camera does the rest. You can go full 360 circle with this too, and the results you can get are pretty amazing.
2) Beauty Effects. Beauty Effects allows touch-ups to skin tone and effects like skin smoothing, shine removal, eye widening, and teeth whitening. You basically have a little Photoshop built in, meaning less time editing on the computer!
All in all, I would recommend this camera. For the casual point and shoot user, it's an absolute dream. Being from a photography background, I can pick tiny little faults with it here and there, but nothing that detracts from the overall quality of the camera. Its size and photographing power make it ideal for almost all situations, and the results are very top-notch indeed.
