Advantages: Build quality, feel and weight. "Very well made, loaded with quality and professional picture taking tools" , Once setup, very quick startup and fast recycle., Super enlargement clarity. Worth hundreds more than list price.
Disadvantages: Larger LCD would be on the wish list or possibly a nice OLED, Minor purple fringing but easy to overcome. Not enough to be upset about., External charger should be included for price
"Very well made, loaded with quality and professional picture taking tools" Geno on 12-Jan-2004 08:38:30 PM Pros: Had a long wait for this camera and it was worth it. Build quality is fantastic and the controls are very easy to use once you use them for the first time. I have had over 10 digital cameras starting with my first a Panasonic taking a superdisc. Wow 1.3 megs. I have had 5 Sony models as well as other top brands but nothing compares to the F828. The color is super and worth the price twice over. I cannot wait for the reviews to come out and see how the experts rate this camera against higher priced SLRS. I mention SLRS because there is nothing in the point and shoot arena to compare this Sony to. It has a very nice balance to it and a weight that shouts quality within. The manual zoom ring will bring you close to your subject in less than 1 second and compares to the best that 35mm cameras have to offer. Having duel media; memory stick standard and pro as well as compact flash 1 and 2 allows you to take hundreds of 8 meg shots before you think of a media change or download. If you like cool toys, the camera also takes Microdrives. As you take all these pictures you can imagine that the camera uses solar power or maybe a new type of fuel cell since the battery seems to last forever before needing a recharge. The lithium Ion battery is a smart type that lets you know minute by minute how much power you have left. It appears to be very accurate and give around 4 hours of shooting for the average user. Do I love this camera,, hmm,, yes I do and I believe you will to unless your idea of a good camera has to have removable lense and cost 2000.00 and up. Will be happy to talk about this camera with fellow users or others considering it. Cons: A larger LCD would be nice and the dream would be an OLED. Sony should include an external battery charger and case with this unit.
