Advantages: Quality of pictures - Mama Mia!, Small enough to put in your handbag or pocket, On board photo editing
Disadvantages: Expensive, Price of memory sticks , Lack of software bundle :(
After a lot of dithering I narrowed my selection of a digital camera down to 2, the Fuji Finepix 6800 Zoom and the Sony DSC-P1. In the end the Sony won. Why? Well… This is what I was looking for in a camera 1. Small, so that it would fit into my handbag on nights/days out. 2. Excellent quality of pictures 3. Zoom lens 4. LCD monitor 5. Self timer I was tempted to go worth the Fuji because the accessories, memory cards etc. are a lot cheaper. But the Sony won because of its size. It is slightly smaller. So have I made the right decision? You bet! I love it! It's very simple to use, unlike my Sony camcorder I'm pleased to say. You can take pictures in 4 different sizes but I tend to use the second size 3:2 which is equivalent to a 6x4 as it's easier to print out the pictures. You can change the image sizes after taking them but the quality is lost slightly. This can be done on the camera itself, which is really nifty. It has 4 special effects, which I haven't used yet. You can also record mpeg movies on it in 3 durations - 5, 10 or 15 seconds recording time. The downfall is obviously the price of memory cards but if you shop around you can find them cheaper. At Currys, Dixons and PC World a 64mb card was £130.00 where as at Jessops I bought a 132mb card for 169.99. Sony only supplies an 8 MB card with the camera, which only holds 5 good quality pictures. Therefore you will need to buy an extra memory stick or you will be forever downloading to your computer. 32 MB card holds 20 good quality pictures 64 MB card holds 40 good quality pictures. 132MB card holds 80 good quality pictures. Downloading to my computer was really easy although I must stress you need a USB connection in the back of your hard drive, otherwise you'll have to invest in a memory card adapter which converts your memory car
d into a floppy disk - more money! I was very disappointed that it wasn't supplied with any photo editing software either. But all in I'd rather pay more for accessories and have the right camera. It does lots of other things, which I haven't tried yet and as I only bought it on Friday I'm still playing around with it. But when I discover something new that's cool, I'll add to this op. Thank you for reading this op. By rating this opinion the NSPCC charity will receive 5p. Thank you!
