Advantages: Small compact great picture quality, ease of use.
Disadvantages: NONE
I used to own a dcybershot-u a really tiny 2mp camera. But when this was no longer enough i needed to upgrade to a more powerful versitile camera.
I did some researh as to what cameras were out at the time and what they could or could not do.
Choices are pretty much the same, all having varied features but mainly the same, the only differences showing up were the brand, price, and designs.
So based on these i hunted high and low on the internet to find my ideal match, and i found it the Sony DSC P200. So i went off trying to find the best deal on it. But just before i purchased this super little camera in black i found a red version! Which i immediately bought!
Now onto the camera - The P200 is very small and lightweight but does pack a lot of punch. It boasts 7.2mp and can record video as well. The camera has a 3x zoom and a jog wheel with different pre set settings. Perfect for landscapes, portraits etc. A common feature on all cameras now.
The P200 also had a 1.5" screen on the back to view your images and videos back and admire your handy work.
The camera has a very light aluminium body and a carl zeiss lens.
The picture quality is second to none and can reproduce images superbly. Crips clear and virbant images can be easily acheived with this camera.
The extra jog wheel settings help set the camera for specific activities or genres of photo, meaning you have less to do.
You can manually modify certain aspects sucha s white balance and a couple of other things to really make the image stand out, but these techniques are rarely used with basically a point and shoot camera.
Close up macro images are also superb.
The P200 uses Sony's memory stick which if you use a duo and adapter can be upto 8gb, so plenty of room for many images and loads of video.
The video on this camera is very good and can be set at either standard or fine, fine being the better quality.
I have used this to record both bon jovi and twisted sister live and have been overimpressed by the audio quality recorded, the picture is very good but with lots of flashing lights the camear struggles to keep focus, not suprisingly really when there is so much going on. You also cannot zoom in or out whilst recording. But thats not really important to me.
A great camera with a great price, the P200 shows what a camera should be capable of and by a brand you can trust to come up with great design, build and quality. Well done Sony, a top flyer.
Summary: Great camera for everyday use, stands up well to being used and is built to last.
