I have used my company's Canon digtal camera for a couple of years and decided it was time to invest im my own.
Having looked around for a while, I bought the Sony DSC-S50.

It has the features I thought would be most useful: a 6x digital zoom, USB connection for fast image downloading, very manageable controls and uses a Memory Stick for storage - which makes expanding the memory VERY simple and surprisingly cheap.

I did wonder at first if 2.1 megapixels was a high enough resolution - but the quality of the pictures I have taken in the last few weeks has been astounding.

I can fit around 16 high resolution photos on an 8Mb memory stick (the camera comes complete with a 4Mb Stick - but I was able to buy the 8mb and a floppy adapter for only £29).

The camera also has the capability to capture short MPEG movies - the length dependent on the size of the Memory Stick you pushed into the slot. Quite a nice extra feature to have.

There IS no optical viewfinder which I thought I would miss after taking 'real' photographs for so long - bit I must admit the back-lit viewfinder (with it's very clever twisting mechanism) is easier to use when I'm wearing glasses.

All-in-all a very impressive piece of gadgetry! I love it.
