Advantages: Picture quality very sharp. Camera easy to point and click

Disadvantages: User Manual complex

I've owned this digital camera for 8 months and have used it regularly over that time frame.

The camera is a sturdy piece of kit, solid and reassuringly heavy. The buttons have a good response in all the physical quality of the camera is very high.

The picture quality is fantastic in comparison to my last digital camera. The colours are good and the pictures are very sharp. I tend to use the camera in 3M mode most of the time rather than the highest level of 5M.

The camera has tons of features allowing the hobbyist to experiment both with photographic settings as well as image processing settings. Unfortunately the manual wasn't that easy to get to grips with and personally I haven't graduated much further than point and click.

Video capture is possible but it eats up your memory sticks (that you have to buy separately) Also the mic is not that good so the sound quality is not great. The memory sticks are the standard Sony ones that are easy to get hold of... you might already have one in an MP3 player hanging around. You can buy one of those cheap card readers to transfer the images to save plugging in the cables and camera.

The batteries seem to last a good time and you can use either the rechargeables, supplied, or swap them out for 2 standard AA batteries. Very handy if you do run out when you're out and about.

One feature it doesn't seem to have that my friend has got on his camera is automatic sensing of which way up you have the camera to automatically set the picture aspect.

Summary: A great quality camera that takes excellent pictures with good battery life.

I'd suggest using it at 5mp, you never know when you get that cracking shot, and want to print it as big as you can.

Sony digital cameras are excellent. We have been using a P100 since Easter - it has taken around 2600 pictures now - the results have been superb. A good first review, and a good subject to choose too, a little more detail would have been useful however. Richard.
