I have been using the Sony A100 for a while now for both college work and my own personal photography. This camera is able to handle both quite well. The A100 is very easy to use and understand. The manual mode on this camera is a lot more clear and easier to use than on it's rivals like the canon and nikon models. The exposure settings and aperture settings can be changed quickly and easily which is great for taking fast shots. A problem i have found with this camera is that there is a lot of noise when working at the highest ISO settings which can be a problem quality wise. A fantastic camera for a first time user. The easy to menu and functions are great and the 10.2 mega pixle sensor pcks up so much detail. Coupled with a few choice lenses from ebay and other places you can kit your self up for a few hundred quid. Using the back catalogue of minolta lenses for a fraction of the cost of new sony lenses makes sence for the cost savy. Quality shots at low ISO (lo80 to 400) and only slightly lacking in the high making the alpha a great starter. I have used this camera on location and in the studio and it performs great.
