Advantages: Easy image storage, Advanced functions, Records short movies

Disadvantages: Heavy and bulky, Battery doesn't last too long

I can't believe no one has offered an opinion on this camera, especially as it's not particularly new. So, I thought I'd address the situation and let you know just how good this camera is!

By today's standards, the Mavica range are dated, as they don't offer massive MegaPixel statistics or flash gimmicks. They're also not too compact or lightweight. Instead, this particualr model has a 1.3 MegaPixel CCD, which is good enough for home users (anything more and you're getting carried away with yourself). Images are stored onto a floppy disk that fits right inside the camera. Yes, that's right! A floppy disk!

You can also record four short movies onto one disk - around 15 seconds each. The camera has a number of useful functions if you're a keen photographer, including automatic program functions and a switch to shift from Auto to Manual handling. Unfortunately, without an optical viewfinder, you'll have to settle for the high-resolution TFT display, which drinks battery-juice like crazy, especially if you use the backlight (which you usually have to do). It's a good thing the FD-88 comes with an AC power adaptor and battery charger! And it doesn't take long to recharge.

So, if you see one of these in a second-hand camera shop, or online at an auction somewhere, snap it up! I wouldn't pay anything more than £250 for it though, despite its advanced functions.

This has a bit more detail than your first electronics opinion, and is all the better for it. Add a bit more and you'll be hitting the VUs before you know it!
