Bullying in Schools
by mbaggott1
So I saw the topic of Bullying come up and thought i'd share my opinion on it and why from my personal life I am so against it. I think everyone or mostly everyone goes through a fair bit of bullying at school and if they don't its probably because they were being the bully to other people.
I left school around 3 years ago ... now and I am so glad, yes I made a few friends but we go to school to learn. Not many children really enjoy school anyway but with the thought of going into school everyday and being bullied as well as just having to be there can be hard work.
So a bit about my life and why I got bullied, Unfortunately I wasn't a typically girly girl at school, I hated the fact that I had to wear a skirt to school because that just wasn't me. Not only was I uncomfortable in a skirt and didn't fit in with the cool crowd I got called a man pretty much for the whole 5 years I was at school. I'm not into skirts, blouses, make up and hair extensions etc. I'm not saying that every girl is either because they aren't but people that weren't cool and stylish got bullied for this just because we wore our uniform like an actual uniform at school. If I didn't roll my skirt up to look like a belt boys in my class would laugh at me, and if I tried to look 'cool' I'd still feel stupid. Either way I couldn't win when it came to the way students had to dress. I was deemed as a 'man' from the word go at school because I looked different and dressed differently.
Another reason why I was bullied at school. I got my hair cut pretty short for a girl in year 9 and fair enough it probably was a a bit of a bad move but it didn't mean people had to insult me over it or pretend they liked it and then walk away laughing. I had fingers pointing at me all the time and people sniggering behind my back. School is never really that fun anyway but this made it a lot worse. I never took time off of school and I wouldn't but it was hard getting up in the morning knowing I had to face them horrible bullies everday. If I did even tell the teachers what happened they would sort it but then you just get bullied for being a snitch. Most of my kind lovely friends fell into the bully crowd by the end of year 11 or just said harsh things about me behind your back. To this day its made me a little insecure and I can be quite paranoid. Trusting people isn't easy now either.
One of the biggest and most controversial reasons that I was bullied at school and people are completley entitled to their own opinion. I 'came out' so to speak at school. I knew I wasn't like a lot of girls in my year and I never really wanted to be like them. Sometimes I did just to try have an easy life but that didn't cut it. In year 9 I came out as a Bisexual to one of my apparently not real friends. She promised she wouldn't say anything because I didn't know for sure then and didn't want the news to spread. But within a few days everyone at school heard and people were coming up to me that I didn't even know asking me questions. I gave them honest answers and then walked on by. Even over social network sites people at my school that I didn't really know would start asking me if the rumour was true. I am happy with the person I am today now I do know my sexuality and I am proud of it. At school its a massive deal for people and its a rumour that can spread like lightning. This ruined my school years as every person would just laugh at me as I walked past or shout verbal abuse at me especially the so called 'popular' people that everyone looked up to.
School like I said can be tough and for me it really was. A lot of people get bullied at school It could be for any reason whatsoever, the truth is people will find a reason just for entertainment just so they have someone to pick on. Its not tough and its not cool but it won't stop for a long time. The punishments in my opinion for bullies at school isn't enough. They either get suspended whih means they come back and don't learn their lesson or they get expelled and they end up causing trouble somewhere else.
My Sister is currently at school and has been bullied for about 3 years now my one girl imparticular. My sister had never actually done anything to this girl but this girl just didn't like her. She got bullied on a social network site and gets verbal abuse and barged from her at school all the time. The girl also gave my sister two death threats, but thank goodness my sister is in a stable condition and would never take real offence to them. The school has been notified but they haven't done anything with the girl as of yet. I think schools are to chilled out about bullying and let it go on for to long before something serious happens and then something is done.
Now I can look in the mirror and smile, no I am no way shape or form perfect but I am happy with myself and what happened to me has made me a stronger person. I definitely wouldn't recommend people bullying its not hard and it doesn't make you popular. People usually bully to cover up their own insecurities. Its made me a stronger person but it can take time to heal from all of the insults. If anyone ever gets bullied admit too it and go seek some help don't do it on your own. Read the complete review |

What's In Your Bag?
by myloh
So.....what's in my bag ?
_________________________
My ancient flip phone that does nothing other than calls and texts.
A mini make-up bag with Kohl pencil, mascara, blusher and concealer.
As you can see I don't indulge in make up too much for day time wear.
Spare car keys (just in case hubs ... loses his). Never happened yet.
Purse, containing cash and a few basic cards for shopping .
Tiny key ring tape measure for use when needed .Supposedly 1m long, but really just extends to 38" . Used a lot. Endlessly.
Tiny phone/address book. Must update numbers in that actually.
One unopened and one opened tiny packs of tissues. Self explanatory.
Two samples .....one of my suite fabric and one of my living room wallpaper. In case I see something "just a perfect match" while shopping. Stored in a ziplock bag to preserve true colour and avoid gathering dirt.
Comb.
Pen
....and my most recent additions.....a collection of carrier bags carefully rolled up and contained with an elastic band.
I used to carry three of those, but now I carry at least 6, because we have this new bag tax here where you get charged for carrier bags. I just never realised how I depended on them ! So, now that I bring my own it has sunk in how I was abusing the use of them. Now my unpacking routine at home finishes with me rolling the bags back up, wrapping an elastic band round them and popping them back in my bag.
I like using Charity shops, but these days I need to make sure I have bags with me or I'll get charged 5p-10p for one. Which is me being silly ,because in reality I often say " Oh just pop my change in the collection box luv..." and I also tend to fish out any copper coins & fiddly 5ps from my purse for chucking in the box. But actually BEING CHARGED feels different........but hey-ho,I am learning a non dependency on carrier bags being handed out willy-nilly ,and that can only be a good thing for the planet.
The bigger strong nylon bags for food shops are kept in the car glove compartment and popped in my bag as I exit the car to do my big shop,so they hardly count as "bag content".
Oh yes,my house keys. They are on one of those little clips (I forget the technical name) that clips onto the metal ring attaching my bag strap to the bag.
It means I jingle-jangle as I walk and you can hear me coming a mile off ,but if I put them IN my bag then they catch on things and rub holes in the bag lining. So I jingle all the way instead.
Boring huh ?
HANG ON. I nearly forgot my rape alarm !
I was given this at a Woman's Day event I attended and it is designed for the elderly (NO I'M NOT !) as well as ladies generally . Not used yet, thankfully. OH WAIT....that's a lie. I tried it out one lunch time and Kizzy (the dog) shot upstairs and was found cowering in the dormer room with eyes like dinner plates, while Freddy the puss shot through the cat flap in the back door and hid behind the tarpaulin on the potting bench for the rest of the afternoon. I personally nearly lost my lunch in shock. From both ends....yes, THAT loud.
Good alarm....REALLY loud....big thumbs up. Just not sure I'd be thinking of hoking in my bag if a dastardly character approached me on a dark night .
Sorry, nothing thrilling like sex toys or banned substances . :-)
I'm giving me two stars. One for useful contents and one for my fabby rape alarm being vaguely 'interesting'. ~~~myloh Read the complete review |

What's In Your Bag?
by 12jane
The bag I use daily at university is one I was given by my dad (chosen no doubt by his girlfriend) for Christmas. It is from Next and is grey with a collage of wolf heads all over it, and is around 12''x18''. The straps are a leather look, with buckles on one side for decoration only.
The bag has a zip top, which I'm glad it ... does, as on many occasions (like this morning!) it is jam packed and I would loose something were it not securely closed. I always manage to loose something in my bag, as there are no partitions, and today I had to empty the contents onto my desk in order to find one of the many pens who live in the depths. I really should get a pencil case...
Inside my bag along with many pens, there is a set of coloured pencils and a notepad. There is also always at least one textbook, currently my Plant Husbandry and Feeds book. Which as I passed the exam with an A this morning, will now be leaving my bag forever!
I always carry a bottle of water in my bag, to try and avoid ever having to buy a drink at uni, and right now there is a recycled Fanta bottle half full of water in my bag. There is also an empty croissant wrapper, showing that trying to avoid the vending machine doesn't always work! I was up studying from 4am and felt too nervous for breakfast so thought I deserved it though.
When not in my pocket or on my desk, my purse and mobile phone, along with my ISIC student card and Slovak residency card are always in my bag, and I try to keep there down the left hand side for easy reaching when I need them.
My bag also carries a pack of chewing gum, a couple of plasters (I'm accident prone and never know when I need one!), my migraine tablets, asthma inhaler, can of body spray, a nail file and a few hair bobbles. And if I am wearing make-up, or it is bad weather, I will have my compact mirror and hair brush, and mascara/eyeshadow to reapply if/when (usually when!) I rub my eye and get it everywhere! A small pack of tissues in my bag also helps with this.
As a vet student I'm in laboratories at uni most days, I also have my white lab coat, several pairs of disposable latex gloves and a pair of tweezers, scalpel and several blades for anatomy dissection classes. Not the typical contents of a students bag!
Gosh no wonder my bag is so heavy! I also had my laptop in my bag for last minute PowerPoint reading this morning, and it weighed a ton! Read the complete review |
