Advantages: .
Disadvantages: .
It's been a while since I've been on holiday, but I've been trying to narrow down the items I'll need. So my indispensable items are
1. Paperwork, that includes passports, tickets, copies of passports and tickets in a separate bag, copy of my residency order (just in case). Travel insurance and driving licence. Hopefully that should be all the paperwork I need.
2. Travel Adaptor: Even if it gets used for nothing else, it'll be essential to charge up the kid's DS Lites for the journey home. So for the sake of my sanity this is one item that will be packed.
3. The DS Lites themselves. When we go to Florida it's going to be an 18 hour journey, so they will be a godsend. Well for about 30 minutes probably, before they get bored lol.
4. A couple of books. Being a single parent, I won't be going out at night, so once the kids are in bed I'll settle for a glass of wine and a good book.
5. Camera. I have given my DSLR to my niece as I am not able to use it anymore, but I still have a very good point and shoot, and couldn't imagine going on holiday and not taking a camera of some description with me.
6. Laptop. No not to access Dooyoo to review as I go lol, but to download the images from my camera. The XD card in my camera only holds about 300 images, and much less if you use it as a video camera as well. So I need to be able to download the images on a daily basis. I guess I could buy a couple of extra cards, but why pay out more, when the holiday is expensive enough as it is.
7. Clothes. Of course, but I am not an over-packer, I take the minimum amount of clothes that I need. In fact the kids probably take more than me, because they're more likely to need multiple changes of clothes after getting the others grubby.
8. Money. Now this is one I'm still umm-ing and ahh-ing about. Do I take travellers cheques, are they still the in thing? Do I risk just using my Nationwide cash card, because I can only use it in Link machines not all cash machines, or do I take cash. And if so when to exchange it, the pound only seems to be going down at the moment, what will it be worth by the time holidays come around.
9. Sun cream. An absolute must, I've already started stocking up on factor 50 for the kids, and noticed that Tesco kids range comes in the same sized bottles as Tesco Adult range, but the after sun in particular is much cheaper in the kids section.
10. Hats. This is one that I'll be determined to remember, and I know I'll get the caps/hats for the kids, because I do the same thing every year. But then I never get around to buying one for myself, and I have really thin hair, so my head burns every year, even in England. And it's very painful trying to shampoo your hair when your head is burning. So this year I will try my hardest to remember a hat before my head burns, rather than afterwards.
Summary: Not the most exciting list in the world

- 28/03/09 I wish I was so organised - last year I got all the way to the train station and found that I had left the tickets on the kitchen table, aarrggghhhh! |

- 27/03/09 Some great ideas, especially keeping copies of passports, tickets etc. Hadn't thought of that one but it's certainly worthwhile, just in case. Good review. Carol x |
