Advantages: All handy stuff I need on holiday
Disadvantages: They all add weight to your suitcase
1. Paperwork - This includes your vital passport, flight, accommodation and airport transfer/car park bookings, travel insurance policy, health cards and maps and information on the area you're travelling to. You'll get nowhere fast without it all!
2. Entertainment - For us this is our mobile phones, Nintendo DS and Sony PSP. My mobile phone has built-in maps so we'll never get lost whilst out exploring. The handheld games machines are ideal for whiling away your time on the plane and can also double up as an mp3 player for those lazy days by the pool.
3. Travel plug adaptor - Vital to recharge your games machines, digital camera batteries and mobile phones.
4. Sunglasses - Self explanatory....if it's sunny! Minimise your chances of getting a headache from squinting at the sun.
5. Books - I don't personally read books on holiday but the wife usually takes a couple of girly romance novels. I generally buy a couple of magazines from the airport lounge but have usually read them during the outgoing flight.
6. Camera - A compact 'point and shoot' digital camera is essential to capture your holiday memories forever. Don't forget your battery charger or spare batteries and make sure your memory card has enough room on it. Nothing worse than running out of space and missing a vital holiday snap.
7. Small Toiletries/sun protection - We usually buy small toothpaste, shaving foam, deodorant, shower gel and other miniture toiletries in order to reduce the weight of our suitcase as much as possible. Under this heading I'd probably include the numerous Ibuprofen, anti-diarrhoea tablets and mosquito repellents we seem to take with us and not use every year! We've also ordered our sun protection from Avon in a 3 for 2 promotion. I burn easily having fair skin and balding head so a low factor is essential for me, whilst aftersun lotion kept in the fridge is so soothing when I do 'forget' to apply regularly!
8. Currency - Unfortunately, the Euro is now worth about as much as the pound so it's very expensive once you get to your destination. Last time we went on holiday was a few years ago and we could get 560 Euros for £400. This year we'll only get 400 Euros...bad times.
9. Sweets - I always get the cheap offers from the supermarket before we leave for the airport. I find sweets vital for use on the plane to prevent/cure your ears popping at high altitude. It's always good to have something to suck on in those situations!
10. Clothes - If you go without any clothes you'll probably regret it! We always seem to ram our suitcase to bursting point and end up not wearing half the stuff we packed. This year I'm only taking 1 pair of jeans as opposed to the usual 3 pairs. Hopefully shorts will suffice most of the time and I can easily make a pair of jeans last in a normal week so why not on holiday!? The other half packs a spare cozzy in her hand luggage so that if the suitcase goes missing she can always go in the pool! I'd have more pressing matters running through my head than taking a swim if that happened!
Summary: Summary or Summery? I'm hoping it's the latter!
