10 indispensable things to take on holiday with you
My favourite holidays are my jaunts abroad to somewhere hotter than the UK. I love nearly everything about holidays from knowing you're going to be off work to planning them, travelling to the airport, taking off and generally two weeks of bliss and lovely sunshine. The only thing I really dislike is the journey home and generally landing back in a wet UK from my lovely hot sunny destination.
My suitcase is always jam packed before I even get to the destination as for some reason I take everything but the kitchen sink. I used to take way too much stuff with me and go over luggage allowances with the ''very heavy'' labelled stamped on. I used to get away with this on charter flights but with me now using budget airlines too and charters clawing money back, the allowances we get seem to be harsh these days. I have had to cut back on my packing somewhat which is a nightmare as I have to pack, repack, repack and repack to cut down my weight which I check on the scales before I go. My luggage is therefore already at its limit before I have even thought about buying some extra holiday goodies. Although I am getting better at packing don't take many shoes with me now and take a day pair, night pair and wear a set on the plane. I have also learnt the tricks of rolling clothes to allow more to get inside the case and I also make sure I use up the hand luggage allowance too!
Here are my top 10 things for my hols in no particular order
1-My trusty brown flojos flip flops which I bought in Las Vegas at the Rain Forrest Café. They were only cheap and they are so comfortable for walking around touristy hot spots, shopping, lazing by the pool, walking on the beach and so on.
2-My sunglasses which I bought in Italy come out in the summer and on holiday. I always pick a holiday to a country where you can guarantee it will be sunnier one compared to old blighty! These are very good at hiding dark circles under the eyes too!
3-My supply of sun cream and after sun to keep my fair skin protected. I used to tan really well when I was younger but not so much anymore and I tend to use at least a 15spf .
4-My swimming costume (Bikinis went out the window a few years ago) for a nice little dip or swim in the hotel pool or beach. I don't spend much time round the pool so much as I love seeing all the tourist spots but love to have a little dip in the pool.
5-My Sarong for when I have a little laze around the pool or on the beach I find it great to wear over my costume.
6-Mozzie Protection - some Insect Bite Cream and Mozzie Plug and Anti Histamines- the cream is for when I get bitten by those stupid mozzies as I always seem to get an allergic reaction to them and always get at least one bite. The Plug is to prevent the little toads from biting me in the first place as they always find a way into the hotel room or apartment. I take the Anti-Histamines before I go and whilst there to help stop me getting a bad reaction to being bitten. These do seem to work as if I get bitten the reaction isnt as bad and lately i dont seem to get bitten as much.
edit-oops missed out 7 -never mind!!!
8-Hair Straightners- for some reason the water on holiday doesn't suit my hair and the heat seems to make my normally straight air go a little wavy. So my straighteners are super and I use them everyday anyway so I couldn't leave them behind it would be cruel.
9- A few decent books - I always wait until I get to the airport and pick out a summer read to keep me entertained on the days where I relax at the beach. I don't really get the time to read at home as Work takes up so much time and so I save my reading time for when I am away from it all.
10-My MP4 Player rammed full of all my music collection from my cds and downloads so I ca listen to my music by the pool or beach or on the plane and transfer rides.
Well there was my list of 10 things though I could have added more. Just need to actually get this year's holiday booked so that I can get packing!
Summary: Things i have to take away on my holidays
