Quinoderm in General
by natalie_rachael
Being a dancer is the hardest thing in the world - not only do you have to work your butt off to dance at your best, but you also have to work your butt off to LOOK your best all the time. So imagine, if you will, my horror, when once a month (yes, ladies, at that wonderful Aunty Flo time), my face erupts into the worst spots I had ever ... experienced! A quick dash to the chemist last year resulted in me picking up this 25g tube of wonder, and now, it is my best friend, and comes everywhere with me!
What is Quinoderm?
Quinoderm is a cream, containing benzoyl peroxide, specifically created to clear up acne. It's an over the counter cream, and the chemist usually checks with me that I have used it before, before selling it to me at a bargain price of £2.55!
What does the product look like? What can I expect?
A pretty purple coloured squeeze tube, with a screwtop white lid, contains the cream, with the funny little Quinoderm logo in orange, and white writing. The cream comes in a matching cardboard box, with instructions on usage, in a handy little leaflet inside.
Quinoderm's active ingredients are:
- Benzoyl Peroxide, hydrous 10% w/w
- Potassium Hydroxyquinoline Sulphate 0.5% w/w.
It also includes ;acetic acid, white soft paraffin, edetic acid, sodium dihydrogen phosphate dihydrate, maize starch, cetostearyl alcohol, sodium cetostearyl sulphate, macrogol 40 castor oil and purified water.
How do I use it?
Using Quinoderm is easy enough - the recommendation is to apply a thin layer to the effected area two or three times a day. You should gently massage the cream until it all blends into the skin, avoiding the mouth and eye area. You should probably also avoid dyed fabrics too - the cream is very good at removing colour from my pillow cases when I use the cream before night, so it's best to avoid your favourite jeans!
I use so little an amount that the 25g tube lasts me ages!
Does it work?
The most important question! And the answer, for me,is a big fat YES! Quinoderm helps me to keep my skin a lot clearer - I get a lot of acne around my mouth, and a few days of using Quinoderm, and I can instantly see results. Check out my photo - this is after having a bad break out just two weeks ago, and my skin is ten times better!
There are a few downsides to Quinoderm, however. The main thing I have found is that it dries your skin out massively - which then leaves you with the dilemma of do I put cream on, or moisturise?! I find that I only need to use Quinoderm for a few days until my spots are cleared, and so then I moisturise for a good week with a heavy moisturiser, and balance is restored.
The other is the smell - it really does give the idea that you're putting chemicals straight onto your face! It tingles once it's on, and this shows how strong this concoction really is! But that tingling soon settles down, and the pungent smell soon subsides.
All in all, the advantages certainly outweigh the disadvantages of this product, and it really is the best cream I have come across to treat my skin quickly and efficiently.
Quinoderm is available at all good leading pharmacies throughout the UK. They also have a website, which is currently under construction, and the range also includes face wash, and a weaker strength cream, specifically for sensitive skin.
Overall rating = 4.5/5 - would be 5, but the dry skin can be a pain! Read the complete review |

Lush Shampoo Bars in General
by roguerose
I have been using lush in general for many years, the shampoo bars are most likely the best value for money out of all of the lush products! they are the equivalent of three of lush's medium sized shampoo bottles, all packed into one little puck! There are draw backs of course with such a product, the shampoo tins (which you can get free ... when you buy two shampoo bars) have a tendency to become messy as the bar itself can get stuck to the tin when you put it in. You can remedy this by letting your bar dry on a soap dish after use, or put a little piece of ribbon in the tin to hoist it out! :)
I have found it brilliant to take my shampoo bars abroad with me or even just overnight stays in places, or on saving clutter in your bathroom! Lush make a good range of different bars for different hair types, soak and float is a brilliant anti dandruff shampoo, and it DOESN'T smell as strong when used on your hair so you don't need to worry! :) Read the complete review |

What's in your makeup bag?
by walsha11
I am pretty obsessed with make up. I wouldn't say I'm particularly good at it, and having used it for years I have sort of decided what I like and don't like. I'm in my final year of a teacher training course, work as a bookseller and nanny and have a long distance boyfriend so my days are pretty full. As a result I tend to have a ... general make up regime that I stick to. When I do find the time to go out I mix it up a little but pretty much my regime is the following:
1. Moisturiser. This is always step one because I think skincare is ridiculously important. I have pretty good skin, it is almost always clear and when I do get the odd spot it is just that rather than a breakout. I put moisturiser on before bed but always have a couple in my make up box for putting on as the day (or evening) starts. My firm favourites have to be garnier day moisturisers and dirty works night cream. These are quite different but I like them because they are both rich creams with help my skin to feel hydrated. I have also recently been testing out a Vichy cream that I received in my glossybox but as this is a more expensive brand I probably won't be buying myself a pot any time soon.
2. Primers. If you've read any of my reviews it will be clear how much I LOVE primers. I've pretty much tested everything out there and decided what I like and don't like. For day wear I tend to either go for Elizabeth Arden Morning Serum or Smashbox primers. These are both clear gels and though they are very lightweight they give great coverage and an even look to my make up. For a night out I go back to my absolute favourite which is the L'oreal professionals primer, this is a lovely thick mousse and I absolutely swear by it for creating beautiful flawless make up.
3. Flash Balm. Oh my goodness I've fallen for this product big time. The Clarins beauty flash balm is something I coveted for ages but couldn't buy because of the steep price tag. I found it in a discount store and snapped it up and have never looked back. I use it after my primer to give an additional boost of hydration and because it creates this great layer onto which concealer and foundation just sits perfectly. I love it.
4. Foundation. Over the years I have tried loads and loads of foundations and I know what I like. I tend to prefer thicker foundations and always look for brands that carry light shades because I am super pale and freckly. I have come to the decision that Max Factor is the brand for me when it comes to foundations and my two favourites are the Xperience and colour adapt foundations. The Xperience is a very smooth, rich foundation and the colour adapt if more of a mousse. I tend to blend the two because I have the colour adapt in a slightly darker shade but if I was to choose it would definitely be the Xperience foundation for me as it is something I always have stocked up.
5. Concealer. I used to use those little sticks that come with concealer inside and a brush on one end until I discovered what is now my go to product. It is actually a foundation but I use it as a concealer and once again it has to be Max Factor. I use the Miracle Touch foundation which comes in a shallow circular dish with a sponge. I don't use the sponge, instead I smooth it under my eyes, along my nose, on my chin and anywhere there are blemishes. The consistency and coverage of this product is fantastic and I don't think I'll ever go back to traditional concealers.
6. Powder. I am less fussy when it comes to powder but because of my pale skin I need to find a brand that offers lighter shades. I tend to go for Rimmel powders or a recent favourite of mine is the Collection 200 lasting performance powder. I get through powder really quickly and this is why I opt for cheaper brands. That said, when I am going out for the night I use my Lancome powder which was given to me by my mother. I have this in a lovely pale shade and it gives the softest coverage to my skin.
7. Blushers, Bronzers and Highlighters. Because I have pale skin I tend to go for muted or mixed bronzers which aren't too dark. I really like my body shop bronzers which has a mesh of colours mixed together. I apply this to my outer cheekbone for a little extra definition. For blushes I really like Bourjois powder blush or Max Factor miracle touch creamy blushers, and I tend to go for an array of colours and see what suits my mood. For highlighters my favourite is high beam by Benefit or hocus pocus by soap and glory. I tend to only use highlighters when I am going out because I think it's a bit much in the daytime.
8. Eyebrows. I use my HD brow palette which I got in my glossybox months and months ago. You can't actually buy this online, but it is available from ebay as loads of people who have had the full sized sample are selling them. At the moment my hair is a really dark brown so I tend to blend the black and dark brown colours together with the brush and then apply this to my eyebrows. I also use 17 eyebrow gel to hold them in place.
9. Eyeliner. I usually use either Bobbi Brown or Lancome black eyeliners on my upper eyelash line. I like this look because it creates a thick look to your lashes if there is a nice dark line on the eyelash line. Recently I have been using my eyebrow palette as an eyeliner. The darkest powder is black and it holds really well on my eyelid but looks a little softer than eyeliner, I tend to blend this with the brush.
10. Mascara. I've reviewed absolutely loads of mascaras over my time on dooyoo and though I love trying new ones I have a few firm favourites. At the moment I really like the Rimmel day 2 night mascara for both volume and length. I also really like Maybelline cat eyes for separating my lashes and Rimmel Scandal eyes for creating drama. I do vary what I use and tend to have at least 10 mascaras on the go at any one time so choosing favourites is pretty difficult but these are mascaras I've bought time and time again.
11. Eyeshadow. This really is a rarity for me even on a night out nowadays. I really love my heavy eyeliner and feel I've perfected the look of my make up over the years, finding the right products to suit me. Eyeshadows are not something I buy regularly and so have a couple I use if I'm really getting glammed up. I tend to go for Benefit smokey plalette because there are two nice shades in this one which really give the sexy sultry look. I round things off with my benefit eye bright to really open up my eyes and if I'm feeling particularly energetic a set of eyelure eyelashes.
So that's my day and night beauty regime in a rather large nutshell. I'd love to hear about yours!
