Breakfasts
by Kirst09
When I was younger, I never used to eat breakfast as it made me feel sick. I also used to go swimming several times a week early on a morning and I wouldn't eat until I got back. I never thought that breakfast would actually become such an integral part of my day. In fact, I think it is the meal that I enjoy the most!
The ... thing with breakfast is that it is so versatile; there are no limits. Some days, when I feel really hungry, I will rustle myself up an English breakfast. I refrain from saying "full" because I never have the full monty, I eat little and often so generally go for a few rashers of bacon, a load of mushrooms, a scrambled egg and black pudding if there is any in the fridge. I don't go for the baked beans or fried bread as for me, it is just not necessary and too heavy on a morning (she says after all of the above!).
Another cooked favourite of mine is pancakes; crepe style with butter maple syrup and a side of bacon or home made scotch pancakes. I generally put chocolate chips and/or raisins into the scotch pancakes, or spread some jam on the top of them to add a bit of flavour. Pastries are also a common breakfast food for me. When I lived in France, for the whole second year I would have pastries almost every morning as they were so cheap, readily available and delicious. I really miss my favourite Patisserie, but the pecan pastries or croissants from the supermarket are an "okay" substitute.
It has been a while, but I also love the occasional bagel on a morning, toasted with cream cheese and crispy smoked bacon or smoked salmon on the top. I do have the occasional raisin bagel, but unless I am having fresh fruit alongside my cooked breakfast, or a tasty pastry, it is generally a savoury breakfast over sweet.
The only drinks I really go for on a morning are water, green tea or fresh orange juice, plus espresso if I need to. It generally depends on which of the above options I go for.
I know a lot of people skip breakfast as they don't have time, but I think if you really want to, you really can make time for it, unless you have small children, which I imagine can make it hard. It really does stop you snacking so much during the day though and it's better to have something fatty on a morning than a greasy takeaway on a night. Breakfast is a must for me as I can sometimes work 11 hours a day and I like to feel set up for the day. Read the complete review |

Breakfasts

Seeing as I have written quite a few reviews about cereal bars and breakfast products recently I thought that it would be good to write a review about my breakfast eating habits.
Personally I really do enjoy eating breakfast and I was always encouraged to eat it from a very early age with my parents being a slightly old fashioned ... but healthy 3 square meals a day family. It is recommended to eat breakfast to help you to maintain a health weight as it prevents you from feeling hungry later in the day and snacking. I would definitely agree with this and find that if I do eat breakfast it certainly helps to keep my hunger at bay until lunch time and prevents me from reaching for the biscuit tin.
What I eat for breakfast varies quite a lot and depends upon what I am doing that day.
Work - I start work quite early in the morning and I am not the sort of person who leaves myself long to get ready, preferring extra time in bed instead. I also cannot eat as soon as I get up so I tend to eat my breakfast about 9.00am when I am at work. This usually consists of some sort of cereal bar, banana and a yogurt, fruit or porridge. Occasionally the team at work will decide to order breakfast in and then I usually indulge in a sausage and bacon roll with brown sauce and a orange juice.
Weekday at home - If I have time off work then I will normally start my day off with toast or cereal as it means I have more time to prepare something but I also like not to over indulge to much. If I have toast it is normally just with butter but occasionally I will top it with some nutella or jam.
Weekend - The weekend is when my partner and I are off together and usually have a lyin so breakfast is normally more brunch. This is when I indulge in a full English cooked breakfast consisting of bacon, sausage, egg, tomatoes, beans, mushrooms and hash browns. I do grill all or oven cook all of the breakfast to try and keep the calories down but if we do have this then we only normally eat a snack later in the day as it is sufficient enough to fill you up until tea time. Once every so often we do treat ourselves to a trip to the local wetherspoons for a breakfast as a treat instead which also means no washing up afterwards.
As you can see my breakfasts are quite varied and I know some people find it hard to eat in the mornings but to me it is just part of my routine. I find that breakfast does help to stop me from snacking and helps me feel more alert in the morning. There is so much now available to eat for breakfast and it does not just have to consist of toast and cereal. Personally I will continue to eat breakfast everyday if possible and would recommend everyone to try and eat something for breakfast. Read the complete review |

Do medication reviews have a place on dooyoo?
by Seven17
I have taken some pretty disgraceful medicine in my life, some that never worked, some that I reacted very badly to, and some that just tasted pretty foul. I have also taken some that was great, for insnatce Nurofen Fast Relief Tablets. The medicine i buy over the counter is usually based on speed and effectiveness, but how can you tell ... whichnis best? By reviews of course. Before i found Dooyoo i used to just go on "well i havent tried it so ill give it a go and see what's what" which didnt always work out.
Its good to have reviews for medicine because much like a microwave, iPod, food & drink etc, its an every day need, something we need to get by and cant live without (quite literally in some cases!) and thats what makes medicine important, so I believe the medicine category provides good information about all thr fields that need to be covered when choosing medicine.
If i see some speed relief tablets priced very high, yet claim to be auper fast and effective, i want to know if they are just saying that to sell tablets, and if they are a gimmick, or the real deal and will in fact be a product that i will use in the future. Honesty on the packaging changes a lot but reviews override whatever is on the packaging and tell you everything you need to know about the medicine.
So for me personally, medicine does have a place on dooyoo, i just wish there were more reviews for them, that way the overall rating changes to reflect the general consensus of the people who tried it. More reviews written in different ways also point out good and bad points other members miss but when this comes to medicine actually matters a lot when you're lying on the sofa feeling pretty sick. It helps to know if those bargain asda tablets take an hour to start helping your body Read the complete review |
