The English Language In General ... this op I will attempt to highlight Gender Bias in the Oxford English Dictionary in definitions of Men and Women. There are more definitions overall for men than for women, which implies that women are easier to explain, less complex beings. Here are some examples: man (man) n. (pl. men) 1. a human being, distinguished from other animals by superior mental development power of articulate speech and upright posture. Already has implications of power and superiority and higher mental capacity, as opposed to the female definition "an adult female person." 2. mankind "womankind" refers specifically to females whereas is more all-encompassing. 3. an ad... The English Language In General ... find the English language to be a wonderful hybrid. Pretty much all other languages out there have come from one or two places but the English language has its influences buried in so many different cultures. I love how it has evolved over the years into what we today classify as the English Language. 400 years ago the English Language was such a different thing, influenced by writers such as Marlowe and Shakespeare, moving into newwer times when the dictionary came about and new words where added by Chaucer and his writings into modern times where art and culture is still the biggest influence, with words such as WAG now being an actual word even though it was just a... Emmaus in General ... is a charity, which has shops all over France, as well as 37 other countries including the U.K. It was founded in 1953, although the idea stemmed from post war problems in 1949, and the idea was to create aid for those people who could not afford housing, and to attempt to give some kind of dignity to those people that lived in the streets. Today, Emmaus is going from strength to strength, and provides a great deal of choice to customers in their shops, which are very similar to other charity shops, although the mainstay of French charity shops.
