Advantages: Legal, Free in UK (NHS clinics and hospitals)
Disadvantages: You might feel unwell realising what have you done
In Great Britain the law allows every woman to have an abortion up to 24 weeks of the pregnancy. In some circumstances it can be done after 24 weeks. Teenagers can have an abortion with or without parents consent. Abortions are carried out in Uk ( in northern ireland are illegal) in either NHS hospitals or private, approved clinics.Patients from ROI,who wish to have an abortion in UK need to pay full price privately as they are not entitled to an abortion on the NHS.
Currently, medical staff nurses and doctors are protected by law and can refuse to take part in abortion, it is very controversial and more doctors oppose an abortion on ethical grounds. Father of unborn child (foetus ) has no legal rights so woman can go ahead with abortion without even informing him and there is really nothing what he can do if he wish to keep a baby.
Technically, there are two types : medical abortion and surgical abortion. First involves swallowing drugs causing early miscarriage. Doctors like using word 'misarriage' instead of abortion.Iit sounds better, so patients are more likely not to associate this word with guilt. The second one - surgical abortion, involves vacuum aspiration and surgical evacuation. Generally the later the abortion the more risky and painful it is. Usually after evacuation foetus is disposed of in the same way like any other medical 'waste'.
Why i am writing about abortion? Abortion is a topic that all people seem to take seriously. Some people often compare an abortion to other forms of genocide ( see http://blackgenocide.org/abortion.html ) . Partially, I agree with them. Indeed,it is a form of murder, what is worst -it is legal and widely justified.
I am passionately against abortion. I assume that all people are equal and should be treated in a way which respects their basic needs for life and liberty. In my view rights of the unborn baby are equal to those of her mother. Unborn child needs protection since it simply cannot stand up for its own rights. Doctors who take part in abortions promised to save life at the beginning of medical career and automatically, I think abortion breaks the Hippocratic Oath.
Sometimes, when child is severly handicapped, it is in the woman best interest (according to some doctors) to have an abortion and in some way i understand how worried and sorrowful they are. Mother can decide if she can look after the baby,it is up to her. Actually, many children recover after being'writen off' by doctors, for instance 40 years ago child with a Down sydrome was automatically placed in the nursing home, now it is unpopular act and some can conduct an interesting and active life.Even seriously ill babies should die naturally, with dignity and nobody should decide when and how they should die. Maybe after unsuccesful treatment or lack of any they will die ,but it is not moral to murder them. If someone stab you, he can plead in his defence that many people suffer from sudden extravasation (those suffering from haemophilia) or cardiac attacs.Just because we can, does not mean we should. Just because people day from brain tumour every day, does not mean we should kill unborn babies diagnosed with brain defects. Moral responsibilty should be irrespective of whether or not natural and accidental diseases might have done the same thing. Simple, yet unpopular reasoning.
The unborn baby can feel pain and has intelligence, believe or not,but it is true. Why kill them? Some unwanted babies could be adopted in the case of under-age pregnancy or when a family is too poor to cope with a child. Many childless coupless are desperate to adopt but current legislation favours abortion over adoption, i think.
Obviously i am against abortion but i think woman HAS a right to decide what happens. I am not thinkg about those 'irresponsible' about contraception, but about raped wt be reminded oman. Raped woman should not be made to have the baby, never! If she did not choose to get pregnant she should decide. The question is what is more important : the basic right of the unborn child (to live) or mothers right not to lose her life opprtunities and well-being? I tried to be as sensitive as i could - honestly. Do not hesitate to write a comment if you disagree or if you think there are some reasons why i shoul not post it here.
Summary: It is important to make the discussion between freedom in general and freedom of the will

- 11/09/09 I am scared that abortion is becoming more of a quick solution for irresponsible people who don't use protection. Granted there are some legitimate reasons that it could be necessary but I think putting the child up for adoption is best. |

- 09/09/09 I cant brig myself to rate your review as I dont quite know how to feel.
One thing I will say is that many women have abortions for lots of different reasons and who are we to judge these women?
Everyone has dfiferent views on the topic and its great that we can openly discuss this taboo topic.
Personally im not against the idea if someone believes it is thr right choice.
Thanks for writing a review and getting people thinking about the subject |

- 05/09/09 This is a difficult thing to answer and for me I am against abortion in general but do recognise that there are some scenarios in which the woman should be allowed an abortion. However this throw away society we have disturbs me, I don't want a baby so I am going to abort is just horrible. I know some people are going to disagree with me but hell, if you simply don't want a baby, then adopt it, there are hundreds of thousands of couples crying out for a baby. |
