Advantages: could save mothers life, probably needed for rape victims.
Disadvantages: babys do feel pain in early stages.
A delicate subject this may be and thankfully something I never had to consider nor would I want to!!! But I do have an extremely strong opinion at what stage a pregnancy should be terminated. At present the deadline of twenty-four weeks, unless there is a danger of the mother or baby coming to harm. I have been researching this subject for a few months now using the internet. Some of the facts I have come across have disturbed me greatly, here are some of them.... From just twenty-five days a baby's heart begins to beat. Foetal breathing movements have been detected as early as eleven weeks. Brain activity has begun at forty days. Brain cells these are essential for consciousness in an adult and are known to be present in a foetus by ten weeks. The brain and nerve fibres must be functioning for anyone to feel pain - a frightening thought, don't you think? At twelve weeks the nervous system has formed. The foetus develops an almost complete range of responses to touches on the skin by twelve weeks. I find it disturbing to think that just a short way into pregnancy that people assume the baby feels no pain at being aborted, who are they trying to kid? During my research I also came across a subject on live birth abortions this method appalled me. For fear of completely upsetting people I won't even begin to go into the gory details of what this entails; let's just say it's horrific, a clear case of murder and torture for anyone who cares to find out for themselves. Live birth abortions are usually performed in the later stages, where it's claimed in some cases that the mother is at risk. The baby is literally removed alive and often set aside to die on its own, although hopefully not in all cases. The methods I have read about are widely used in America but were banned in the UK in a house of commons debate back in nineteen eighty eight. Only problem is Doctors who perform abortions don't have to specify whi
ch method they have used. I work with a trained nurse who informs me that live birth abortions in the horrific way I have read are indeed still performed in this country, but are kept quiet. To sum up my opinion I believe that having read the facts on the developing foetus abortion should not be performed after eight weeks, unless there is a damn good reason: such as a women who has been raped and becomes pregnant as a result of this. Or a youngster who is not mature enough to take responsiblity for caring for a baby; or if the baby is grossly deformed or the mother's life is endangered. But as for people who suddenly decide at twenty-four weeks they don't want this baby after all, well - tough luck. They should be made to continue the pregnancy; there are plenty of people out there who would gladly love their baby.
