At 20 years old I had an abnormal smear.Letters from the hospital asking me to come in and see a consultant and to have a colposcopy.
I was scared.
Its the most degrading thing in life for women to go for a smear in the first place let alone having to go for a colposcopy.
I went to see somebody at my doctors.
I told her my fears and that I really was too scared to go for a colposcopy.
She told me I shouldn't worry that It was just a slight inflammation.
I went away and presumed this would clear up by itself.
A year or so past by,I recieved a call from
the hospital urging me to come in.
So I went.
I was told that I had severe changes to my cervix that needed immediate treatment.
On examination I was told I was pregnant.(I had been using contraceptives)
I couldn't have the treatment whilst I was pregnant.
Here I had to make my choice.
I had already left it a year and a bit since I had the abnormal smear result.
The risk was to leave treatment for another nine months.
Already having two children,I decided it best that I should have the treatment.
So I had an abortion.
Its so easy to say,but I think of my lost child a lot.Especially at times like Christmas.
I know I would have definately had my baby.

Apart from my experience what does sicken me is that women from certain cultures will have an abortion if it is found that the sex of their baby is a girl.
Due to this a lot of hospitals wont disclose the babies sex at the ultrasound scan.
More hospitals should follow suit.

As for teenage pregnancies.I think a lot of parents need to wake up and be re-educated.
YOU MUST be approachable to talk to as a parent.
I couldnt talk to my parents about anything, maybe you should read my opinion on my teenage pregnancy.
You see if you suspect your child is having sex you HAVE to talk to them, and see that
they are using protection.
No matter how young you thi
nk your darling angel is,if they are having sexual intercourse they will do it behind your back
even if you have told them no!
I know that as much as I will hate it,when my daughter is older if she is 14 and having sex I would rather it be protected from STD's,and an unwanted pregnancy.
Maybe if more parents could have the same attidude no matter how awful it sounds then the teenage pregnancy rate, and abortion rate would fall.

That must have been a heart-breaking decision to make... but the consequences had you decided to postpone treatment could have been just as heart-breaking.
I' ;m quite sure you did the right thing - even though you must feel so sad about losing your baby.
Great opinion! It must have taken a lot of courage to write.
