From much reading, this section seems to be filled with people's own experiences and the consequences in accordance to their own particular beliefs. Each individual case has its own circumstances, reasons and outcomes. And that is exactly the case with this delicate issue. Every situation is different, so you cannot make a majority agreement as to what is right and wrong for whatever reasons. I will not go into details of my own experience because it is insignificant in the scheme of things. I don't expect people to agree or disagree with me. It was my own choice and it was the right thing to do at the time. In hindsight, I still believe that I made the right decision. But my situation was my own, and I did not need anyone telling me what was right and wrong. I instinctively knew from my own inner voice. I believe that the decision whether to or whether not to take action here is made so much harder by the fact that there is so much stigma and righteous plight around abortion. Individuals are being made to feel so much guilt, moreso because many Christians are saying "Your soul will be punished on judgement day" and the feminists are saying "Women are allowed to make their own decisions". It makes it so much harder for anyone in this situation for whatever reason, in whatever circumstances. I dismiss the opinion that many abortions are due to "easy" girls' lack of morals, and that abortion is now seen as a type of contraception, because this is wrong. Christians, as much as their beliefs dictate to them should know "Let those who are innocent throw the first stone". It isn't as black and white as people make out. It never is. This country seems to want Victorian values for some things in life, but 21st century values in most others. We cannot have both. I would just like to point out here that I am not attacking Christian or Catholic beliefs as we each have our own, b
ut simply that the majority of pro-life activist ideals stem from religion. Religion is becoming less and less prevalent in society nowadays, and this, to pro-life activists is going to be the biggest obstacle to overcome if they really want to change society. For those calling to ban abortion, take into account, that abortion has been going on in back streets all over the world, for an awfully long time, in this case putting even more lives at risk. Isn't it better to control the situation with government regulations rather than leave it to the cowboys, because even if it is made illegal, it will still happen. For those in favour of keeping it legal, it must be taken into consideration that people have their individual gods and beliefs and that is never going to change. As is the case vice versa. Mass conformity either way will never happen in a land of free, democratic speech. My personal opinion is that, for those of you that have had to deal with this situation before, you know you made those decisions you had to for a good reason, whatever that may be. It was your reason and your decision. It has been and gone now, and the outcome will never change. It was difficult at the time, but the future is here now, and things go on, as they have for centuries. For others who have not been through this situation personally, again your beliefs are your own and only you can decide, but I really think that it isn't until if you are ever in this situation, that you can really ever decide what the "right" thing is. I wouldn't hope that anyone would ever have to deal with this decision, but until you do, as much as individuals have their own beliefs, you will never really know what you would do.

- 11/04/01 A very good opinion which hits my point of view of this matter. Unfortunately there will be always people who want to tell others what they should or should not do. Lots of people judge others becuase of a situation they do not know themselves. I found out that it is often people who are well established and thus can afford to raise children who judge women having aborted. To my mind these people do not have the right to act like that. - 01/04/01 You are totally right Nicola. Abortion needs to be kept legal so that it is regulated properly. If people don't like it then they don't have to use it but they shouldn't judge people who feel they have to. |

- 31/03/01 Great opinion. I have read so many opinions on this subject and it really annoys me the people who judge people. It takes a lot of courage to do the right thing and your opinion explains it really well. |
