Advantages: good player and captain

Disadvantages: none

Adams announced his retirement from international football and at the age of 34 perhaps it was the right decision, however you can’t help feel sad. He was a great player for England, how England could do with a 20 year old Adam.
In recent years he’s been plagued with back injuries, which has forced him to retire. He was just one of the best defenders in the country, he was so consistent and such a agile player. He would always put 100% for England, and I think he was unlucky not to be England captain when Shearer got the nod.

I think that this could be the start of the likes of Wise, Ince, and Seaman retiring from International football, which will be a bit sad. Because, I think we should have a balance between young and older players, just for the younger players to learn from them. So, I hope that Adams is still involved in the England set-up and is still invited for England training sessions, where I am sure he can help the younger defenders. Because it would be sad if we didn’t get the most out of Adams even if it isn’t on the pitch.

Tony Adams has been one of the most successful players for Arsenal, being captain from 1989 he has won almost every domestic honour available, however, for a few seasons now he’s had a series of niggling injuries which has restricted the amount of games he plays for both club and country. Adams thinks that is body can only cope with domestic football and you have to respect his wishes, but we will be sad to see him go.

With Arsenal, he’s still a regular and if fit will be picked, I think he has a few good seasons left in him, playing fewer games will mean that he might be able to remain fitter. But, I don’t think he will be able to play 60 or 70 games per season. Time will come when Arsenal will have to look for a replacement, whether it be Mathew Upson or someone else. But, one thing is for sure, it won’t be the same without Adams, raising his a
rm in the air appealing for offside.

(aside: can anyone tell me what’s happened to Mathew Upson).

I'm not English, but i have to agree with that!! Adams is the 1 player which England could rely on, and without him, I think England will struggle!! I wonder though, does his retirement have anything to do with the English FA appointing a foreign manager?? Maybe he doesn't agree with it - I know i wouldn't, if i was an Englishman!!!

As a Chelsea supporter,i have to agree with you on this one.
A great example of of the type of footballer we need more of in the England side.
Who know's, if things do not work out with our Swedish friend, Tony might be the man we need!.

yes it will be sad to see him go...but he's been looking a bit behind the pace for some time now. As for Wise, Ince and Seaman, I agree it won't be long before they follow...one way or another.
