Tony Adams is without a doubt, one of the finest defenders in the world. For Arsenal he has performed impeccably over the past few seasons, giving consistently excellent performances in every competition he's played in, including European football. Not only does Adams play well for his club, he also puts in excellent performances for England, as a mature International player.

Tony Adams now has everything a great defender needs. Confidence, Ability, Strength, A Calm Demeanour, Speed. Confidence is something Adams now has in abundance. The way he commands the rest of his defence and often the rest of the team when he captains is superb - he is a true leader. If it were my decision, he would captain England, not Alan Shearer because I believe (although I can't know for sure since I've never played with them!) he's a better captain. His ability is superb: he enjoys going forward now more than ever and regularly takes part in excursions up field to attack the oposition when the opportunity arises. Adams' strength is a force to be reckoned with - there is very little chance of someone overpowering this man. His physical strength and determiation all but precludes aerial attacks when he correctly positions himself. As far as Adams' ability to stay calm - you only need to watch him play. He's completely unflappable and you'll regularly see him organising (particularly the younger players) the team, often during hard times on the pitch. Despite Adams' history of injuries and the fact that he's not getting any younger, he's still in good shape and has good pace to him - something which a defender requires in the modern game.

Adams will be a vital player for Arsenal this season, although due to his current fitness problems (injuries etc) it's unlikely he'll feature as much as in previous seasons. The same goes for Internationals, unfortunately Adams is struggling to stay injury free and both
Arsenal and England will suffer from his absence because there really is noone better at what he does. If only we had more time with Tony Adams. I don't think we'll see much more of him on the pitch after this season so we'd best all make the most of the old chap!
