Advantages: Brittish children get the parents they deserve

Disadvantages: You have to be lucky to get through the paper work and red tape

Adoption is in all the Newspapers, on the News and in everyone’s thoughts at the moment with the case of the American Twins who were adopted by the British couple who brought them over here to live, and who have subsequently lost custody of them at the moment.

They found the babies advertised on the Internet and arranged to go over to America to adopt them, what you need to remember about America is Babies are big Money, not only for Adoption but for surrogacy also. The fact that the Mother of the Twins sold them twice shows how the money orientated the Adoption Policy in America has got.

The reason the British couple used the Internet and went to America is because of how difficult it is to Adopt in this country. There are many children in our country who need a loving and safe home but only a handful of them get it and that is what is so unfair.

Why should a potential couple have to go to another Country to help a child who is parentless when we have so many of our own children who need help?

I know that the Government are looking into this and are passing laws on adopting from abroad. Why?….

….Because it was highly publicised ! It has always been difficult to adopt a child, mainly because they are very strict in their criteria. This is needed for the sake of the child, the last thing they want is to give a child to a paedophile or someone who has a history of violence – this is understandable, but something has to be wrong for people to be looking to going abroad.

In my opinion its more important to see to our own children first – they are our future, its them that are going to be our Doctors Lawyers Police Officers etc and if we don’t help them then we are looking at a future of very angry Adolescents who can rebel and cause a whole load of problems because they will see a country who has let them down.

How would you feel if you woke up as an orphan in an orphanag
e to the news about a couple who have adopted a child from another country?

Think about it.

There is a real shortage of 'babies' for adoption because of the high uptake of abortions. Obviously when abortions were illegal far more babies were up for adoption. If you can't have your own baby, I can imagine you desperately long to adopt a very young baby in order to bond to it ect. It takes a mature couple to be able to parent an older child(perhaps with behavioural problems), and do a good job. When you have your own child your parenting skills grow with them. Perhaps this is why there are so many older children waiting for families, I'm not sure what the solution is?

Good point made. I don't think I could really begin to imagine how these children must feel.

How would you feel as an orphan who was in a stable home but was taken away because these parents (who you have known all your life and were friends of your parents) were deemed unsuitable by the State.... Not a hypothetical situation but unfortunately a very real situation - good op!
