I recently wrote a short piece for the "General" discussion topic in which I mentioned that I am an atheist and have been ever since I can remember. One of the people that commented on my article (Squiddly450) asked: "would you not agree that saying "I think there is something out there but I wouldn't like to say what it is" is probably going to be more true than saying "There is definitely nothing out there"?" Agnosticism? Is that not the oh so common prejudice against agnostics which is so prevalent in society today? Apparently not. There was me thinking this was my excuse for a rant against people who treat all us agnostici gnoramuses who cannot be arsed making an informed decision. Too lazy to be atheists and too scared to be religious we are thought of as the perennial fence sitters hedging our bets in a half-hearted attempt to get into a glorious afterlife in a sneaky back door fashion. What being agnostic means to me. To me being agnostic means that I spend every day of my life learning. Every second I am awake I try to learn something whether it be trivial or essential to living my life. Being agnostic to me means that I am open minded enough to accept that anything is possible, but at the same time be wise enough to use logic and reason to evaluate those things which aren't likely to happen. And if with my conclusions I come to a point of disbelief, not by facts, but with educated intellectual thought process, then I will still be wise enough to admit that my belief could be wrong and be open minded enough to consider others theories and ...
