Jean Alesi surprised many people in 1991 when he turned down a Williams seat, and he may be regretting that now. In the more than 150 Grands Prix he has contested, he has only one once, in Canada 1995, and does not look like winning again in a hurry, if he stays with Prost. Had he taken up the Williams seat, he might have taken a few more victories, and possibly even a World Championship. He is still one of the best drivers in modern F1, but along with former Ferrari and Benneton team-mate Gerhard Berger, he never had the chance to show it.
However Jean will be known more for his fiery character than his driving skills, and many people are amazed that he is still driving for Prost, and has not said that enough is enough, and called time on his F1 career. If the rumours about Alain Prost selling his team are true, then Jean probably will leave, and either retire or go back to sports cars.
Jean announced in a recent press conference that he would be happy to end his driving career at Prost. However, he would probably have been happier to end it with a better team, or with a more impressive record.
