As a cricket lover who writes lot on the sport here and watcher of the game, I would like to send respect out to all at Surrey who write here and anyone who picks up the bat or ball who knew him. I had a chat with him once after a big England match in South Africa as he joined the Barmy Army for a brew. Most of the other England players slopped of to get away from us with only him and Goughy and a couple of fringe players sharing free Castle beer. Great things have been expected from Asley Giles, however I an far from convinced that he his the quality of Mustaq Ahmed or Saqlain. He hasn’t really made an impact or shown anything of his best. He did get three wickets against a tour side, but in the one day internationals, he hasn’t really impressed. I know the pitches are flat, but if the likes of Shahid Afridi can take wickets then surely Ashely Giles can also. I do think the pressure is really on him to perform, especially as he was chose in the squad ahead of Robert Croft and Phil Tufnel. The stage is set for him to make a big impression. Why is nick Knight not classed as one of the best players in the world ? Nick Knight one of the few good left handers and a top class fielder is not regarded by his fellow players at all . Nick Night played extemly well against the west Indies being the highest scorer on at least three occasions. Also his fielding was outstanding playing at slip or close fielder. I personally believe that he should be the opening parter with maybe Michael Vaughan who is also a class act for both oneday and test however this may not be possible in the triangular series as he is injured.
