Just before you read this review, you must know that I am Northern Irish and I have nothing against English people but I feel I need to set half your population straight.
English footie fans expect their team to always be successful, because they have this elitist view that “we invented the game, so we must be good at it.” Well let me bring you back down to earth, you’re not. A recent FIFA ranking placed England at 16th – joint with Croatia! What a joke! England are nowhere near the quality of Croatia and should not be that high up in the rankings.
You need to give S G Eriksson time to rebuild the team and if he does not get it right at first, give him time, don’t stick the knives in if it takes him a while to fix the team. Let him introduce the promising youngsters there are into the team and let them gain experience. Even if you don’t qualify for the next world cup (which I don’t think you will,) use it as a learning curve. Experiment, use new tactics and formations, find out which is best suited to the team and players.

One of the main reasons the recent English managers have ‘failed’ is because of the English press. Every time the English team under perform they jump on the manager and blame him for it all. If they would leave him alone when he/the team make mistakes then the manager might not get so tired of the job and decide its not worth it, starting the cycle all over again.
We football supporters in Northern Ireland know and accept that our team is not the best, but we still get behind the team and support them full heartedly, no matter what the results. That’s the attitude the English should have , and maybe then the team will start getting better.
