(American) football is the #1 sport in the United States of America, and is also my favourite sport (in terms of viewing). It is called football because it has its foundations in the English game of Rugby football, which was played in the 1800s, before it crossed over the Atlantic and got lots of alterations to it. History: There is one major football league in North America, but there are also alternatives such as the CFL (Canadian Football League) and the AFL (Arena Football League). NFL: The National Football League is the main football league in America, it consists of 32 teams, all of which are located within the borders ... Read the complete review

On Sunday night, 3rd February 2008, I sat down in my front room with my North American friend, a case of beer and some snacks to watch what is perhaps the largest commercial game in sports apart from the Football World Cup Final - the American Football Superbowl. This was the 42nd Superbowl, and the 12th I had watched since I first started following the game back in the mid-1990s. My brother used to stay up late and watch this funny sport that seemed silly to me. Then one night I stayed up with him and I have been a big fan ever since, playing the game at University, coaching it afterwards, and still avidly following the professionals across the pond each year ... American football, a sport that 12 months ago I'd have avoided like I wish I could avoid emotional feelings i have for a pretty scottish girl, but currently I've become enthralled in it, and not like "boxing fans" (read people brought in by the hype of Hatton V Mayweather) who stick to it for one or two events. Having been watching it for the past few weeks (from about week 8 this season) I must say I finally see what the fuss is about and I'm finally able to understand the terms and rules. Now I realise the ignorant among the readers (yeah great one Scott, slag off the readers, good move) will be saying to themselves "lol's, American football's just ... Read the complete review

OK, hands up those of you who spent a major chunk of February 3rd or 4th watching 22 muscled-up speed freaks in funny outfits attempt to beat each other's brains out? Go on, hands up. No need to be shy. After all, you'll be keeping company with about 800 million others around the world. It was Superbowl night. It was the culmination of a short but gruelling American Football season. It contained within it what was arguably U2's shortest but most witnessed concert ever. It was (if you like that kind of thing) a fantastic sporting spectacle. On show in the match were several players who had first tried their ... Read the complete review

Before I get into this opinion, I would like to point out that it has very little to do with American Football. I had an idea to write and compare British sports and American sports. With no real place to write it in, I thought that this is as close as I would get. For all you die-hard American Football fans, your beloved sport will be mentioned, but just not as much as you would like. So there, you know now what to expect. Let's go. We British are very proud of whatever we invent, mainly due to the fact that we don't invent a lot (joke!), and we get annoyed when someone claims that they invented something which we obviously did. Football was supposedly ... Read the complete review
