Advantages: Animals are great

Disadvantages: Humans can be horrible to animals

I'm one of those people who gets as upset at animal cruelty as I do at human suffering. Animals are so defenceless (well, maybe not crocodiles) and innocent that I just don't understand how anyone can hurt them. Plus some of the sentences/punishments given to people who have tortured animals, are ridiculous. If you hurt an animal, you can hurt a person and you should be properly punished for it.

I have a rescue cat, I don't know much about what had happened to him before, but I do know that his owners had moved out and left him. He was living outside and being fed by the neighbours.

He was very, very nervous, didn't like being stroked, didn't play much, hated going outside and was a very nervous little animal. Now, after nearly three years of TLC, he really is a different cat. He's very affectionate and although he is still vary wary of strangers and scared of loud noises, he's so much happier. This to me, says it all about why animals are so great - they make you feel good! I have to say I don't really agree with people buying cats and dogs, there are so mnay great pets needing homes in rescue centres, they might take a little bit more attention but they are worth it. Also, another thing that really annoys and disgusts me is these idiots, who give up their pets, because they shed hair or something - well d'oh - what did you expect? Owning a pet is a big responsibility and people shouldn't enter it lightly.

I'm also a veggie and I am morally opposed to eating animals when we don't need to. Factory farming is evil and breeding animals to eat them is not good for the environment either. There's a lot more I could say, but I will get off my soapbox.

Check out the RSCPA for some more on animal welfare - they are worth donating to.

Summary: Protect animals

Absolutely, people see them as accessories. I mean, I can't say I enjoy clearing up dead mice, but the cat is a cat, that's what he does!

I think a lot of the problem is that people see pets as toys and expect them to behave in a human way....which of course they don't and we shouldn't expect that of them. When they find that cats are cats, dogs are dogs, they get fed up and dump them somewhere.

I can't understand why some people aren't horrified by this vile practice of animal dumping (not to mention other cruelty)....they'd throw their arms up in horror if it happened to a child.

I couldn't possibly say, like Superman, it's important to keep an air of mystery about Rescue Cat! (actually my cat really does not like other cats, so I doubt he'd be arsed enough to save any from a burning building!).
