Advantages: A fun, cheap night in
Disadvantages: Could be uncomfortable for some
A few days ago I went to my first ever Ann Summers party, and it was certainly different to what I was expecting!
- The Party.
The basic aim of an Ann Summers party is to get all your girl friends around, have a drink and a giggle and look at some lingerie among other naughty things, though it's done in such a light-hearted way noone was left feeling embarrased at any point. A Representative from the company (called a party organiser) plays brings various items from the catalogue for you to look at and try on, and also plays some fun games where you can win prizes.
Our night kicked off with Amy - our organiser - handing everyone a catalogue and order form and selling raffle tickets (£2 a strip or 3 for £5). I thought this was pretty pricey as I wasn't sure of the prize, but bought a few to support the hostess of the party.
We were then told all about how you can be a party organiser (yawn) and some prizes you or the hostess can win if we buy a certain amount. I spend most of this talk flicking through the catalouge, but we soon got onto the good stuff.
The more interesting part of the night started off with a 'getting to know you' game called the bunny quiz. The idea is that if you answer yes to a question you 'hop' seats, if the person in front of you doesnt move you sit on their lap. It resulted in 4 of us trying to sit on a very petite girls lap who didnt know anyone! It definitely got everyone up close and more comfortable with each other.
The girl who got back to her own seat the fastest won a prize which I think was a bottle of lube.
The game had already made us fairly giggly while we went on to look at the lingerie. There was a big variation in what was on offer, from the cute girlie stuff (apparently the 'tutu brief' is bound to get stolen by your little girls if bought to the sexy and seductive stuff, including bondage gear and peephole bras. There were a few bits that you could wear out like corsets and some dress up bits.
To be honest some of the stuff for sale was rather naff but the others looked pretty nice. There are a few variations on the typical red/black lingerie that you'd usually think of in that there were some aqua coloured bits in the collection too.
After this we took a break from the catalogue and played another game. It was pretty much a naughty game of bingo. It was good fun and I actually won this game. The prize was a naughty teddy monkey with quite a big winkie!
Back on to the catalogue, and we moved on to the naughty stuff. There was a varied selection of toys to be passed around which your supposed to try on your nose, it was pretty funny and some of the ladies there were reduced to hysterics by the tingling feeling it gives you.
We were also offered a couple of lubes to try the taste of, I wasn't a big fan of either but it was a good chance to try before you buy. After wed asked lots of questions about the products (we were all much more forward once a few drinks were inside us) some of the girls went to try things on. The only thing that fitted me on the rack was the 'hanky panky' nightshirt which was suprisingly comfortable, though I think the other girls had much more entertaining attire - especially the hostess of the party who appeared in the maids outfit!
After we'd all settled down and put our orders in amy counted how much the hostess could buy - they get 10% of what us guests spend - and the money side of things was sorted. She then drew the raffle, we had two winners. One girl won a "ramsey rabbit" vibe worth about £20 in the catalogue with a few other small bits, and another won a strange little blow up duck with a "realistic" hole and some handcuffs. All in all after a few small prizes were given out I'd say the raffle was worth the money.
All in all after a cautious start, the night turned out to be in pretty good taste and a difference to having to go out. I would definitely recommend the party planner - amy - as she has apparently only started recently and was very good at getting everyone relaxed.
-Delivery
All our orders are delivered to the organisers address, who sorts them and individually wraps and seals them for each person - so noone knows exactly what you've bought. Our bits were all delivered to the hostess in less than a week which was better than the two weeks we were told it would take. I can't comment on returns as I haven't had to (yet!).
Benefits of the party:
The hostess of the party gets 10% of whatever we guests spend. There were about 12 of us at ours and the hostess got about £40 to spend in the catalogue.
The party is free to throw.
It's a cheaper alternative to going out for the night, though we headed out afterwards anyway.
It's fairly quick, ours started at half 7 and was wrapped up by about 10, though our organiser stuck around a bit to have a chat with us.
Fast delivery.
Disadvantages of a party:
You supply your own food and drink, though considering what you'd pay for a night out it's not so bad.
You feel like you have to buy something for the hostess to get her discount.
It may be uncomfortable for the very easily embarrassed.
If you are thinking of throwing a party, I'd recommend amy if you live in the right area (our party was in luton but I'm sure she works all over beds, hearts and bucks), who can be contacted at amy.annsummers@live.co.uk, though if not you can ask in an Ann Summers store or on www.annsummers.co.uk
Summary: Worth trying at least once. I'd go again!
