A-Levels are of course still the gold standard. I find it very disheartening when every year the new GCSE and A-Level results show an imporvement it is claimed that they are getting easier. Yet the curriculum and syllabuses have not changed. If anything this is an indication that our students are working harder and harder to get into university, which is extremely comepetitive for some subjects such as medicine and dentistry. Young people are increasingly aware of the value of education but this is not to say that the standards have in any way slipped. The subjects themselves are very in-depth, and an a-level in mathematics for example will equip you to do a degree in anything from accountancy to biology to engineering. The subject matter is diverse and demanding and hence the qualification is worth its salt. What could we feasibly replace A-levels with?
