Advantages: Ratings give a guide to what is going on
Disadvantages: Hypocrits
Why oh why do we continue to bad mouth anything that we have a problem with. My goodness the Victorians hated showing anything to the extent that they even covered the legs of their pianos. Are we still so puritanical? The real problem is that we as a country cannot take titlation. WE pride ourselves on Brith prudeness, but really we all have our secret stash of porn, or try to get a glimpse of the opposite sexes genitals. I admit it, I do like porn, we (my wife and me) use it to spice up our sex life. The trouble is as soon as people find out they act all shocked, until they have a few drinks and let their guard down. Then you find out the majority have either tried it or use it as reguarly as we do. Violence is another thing though. If the studies are right then violence should be moderated. But the thing is we do have the right to not watch the movie and we can also ban or children from seeing them. My two children have the TV turned off if even a glimpse of violence creeps in to a programme. I would much rather they see nudity than violence. The upshot is we have a choice. We can use, watch or partake in censored issues. But that is our choice. If as an adult I make that choice no one has the right to deny it (except my wife). Baring illegal stuff i.e. child porn, snuff movies etc. we should be allowed to watch what we like in the privacy of a theatre or our own homes.
