Speaking from first hand experience, after just finishing my 'A' Levels this summer can i firstly mention that i do not agree with what the press are claiming that exams are getting easier! But in the debate between whether girls are better at 'A' Levels and generally all other exams than boys, well unfortunally, being a male myself the statistics seem to prove they are. But personally i do not think it is a difference in intellegence levels, its the other factors that seem to affect boys more than girls that make their scores lower:

Factor 1(Stress)

During many psychological experiments it has been found that females are much more capable to cope with stress than males. Therefore the exam stress that all students face, has a much larger depremental effect on males than females.

Factor 2(Concentration)

I personally don't know the reason why but males have allot lower concentration levels than females, whether it be the desthractions on having the girl you like infront of you, or not being able to cope with the hours of mind knumbingly boring hours of revision needed.

Factor 3(Mixed Colleges and Schools)

The Statistics show that males who are taught in single sex colleges and schools have much higher pass rates than males in mixed colleges, this could be that the males in single sex tuition my be being taught in a way specifically designed for the male mind to learn better or the fact that the males aren't distracted by the girls.

Factor 4 (exams)

It has been found that the gender gap between males and females is much narrower in practical assesments such as practical exams and coursework, this shows that it could be evidence to show that exams sren't a fair way to test intelligence in both genders.

In all the best hope for males in the future is to study practical subjects, in single sex education, with lessons in stress management and being kept on a diet of nutritious food which will aid concentration levels. Thats if you can be bothered! Ha ha
