Are too many taking advantage of U. K benefits?

Newest Review: ... a penny! I went to the Job Centre to try and get Job Seekers allowance to try and make things financially easier while I was looking for work, but I didn't qualify for anything in Job Seekers allowance as I've not "paid enought national insurance"......ok.......now....... .there are chavs, who go to the job centre every week, pretend they have looked for work, but haven't and they get £70 a week for it!!!!!!!!!! Just cause they didn't further their education and worked in McDonalds for a year!!!! But me, someone who is really looking for work, and only wants some money so she can actually eat and not to go and buy myself cheap c... more

Ok, well IO have VERY big feelings on this situation.....so I will apologize now for offending anybody... I'm 20 years old, and currently unemployed, this is through no choice of my own, I left school with 10 GCSE's at B's and a couple of C's, and 6 A Levels, as well as a great CV. Yet despite applying for over 200 jobs, I only got around 5 interviews, and no job from those interviews, and I'm now a Supply Teacher working only when there is work available, which isn't very often. Now, my husband works full time, over 60 hours a wek infact, but we still only bring home £1200 a month, which is not much in todays climate, with our rent been £500 a ...  Read the complete review

I have two young children and would love another but don't think that will happen. Why not? I'm fit and healthy and I've only just gone 33, I'm not overweight and don't smoke and drink moderatly. Well because I'm married, and my husband actually works for a living and we own our home -we are penalised because of it. I always worked full time and paid my fair share of tax and national insurance onto the system when I worked which was for 11 years, we can't claim benefits like some people can.I'm not saying I think I should be ...  Read the complete review

First of all I will start this review with perhaps a negative comment. This certainly may not fit into the section it is meant to, and it may not be long, it may not be informative and I understand if I get rated low, but i'm in a bad mood and have to get this all out. Understood? Here goes. The benefit system. Certainly not a system I know much of. Myself and my now husband spend a brief spell on the Dole after college finished and we were going to go back to college, but thought finding jobs would be better. This was years ago, I think 2001 and we had to stand in the queue, promise we were looking for work (we were!) and get our cheque every 2 weeks, which ...  Read the complete review

How ironic that when the government of the day is yet again threatening to clamp down on the unemployed, the head of the same Department for Work and Pensions is facing an investigation for not declaring his donations for his leadership campaign. The fact he finished fifth out of six candidates and there's little evidence he spent the money on the campaign is reason enough to fire him. Anyone who has claimed benefits in their working lives (which is most of us if we are honest) will know full well that if peter Hain (the naughty minister in question) was on benefits and was even late for his fortnightly signing he would have his money suspended and face an interview with ...  Read the complete review
