Computer Games are replacing board games and there are several reasons why.

Firstly, Computer Games are faster. There is no slowly moving a counter round a board after throwing a dice. Its all hit a button and hang onto your joystick type thrills. Computer Games also offer you a more complete experience. You get more visual and audio stimulus which add to the excitement. Imagine a computer Monopoly board where you could actually drive through Mayfair and Park Lane and *see* the houses and hotels and you begin to see the picture.

Secondly Computer Games can be played on your own, when you want to. The problem with a board game is that you need at least two people, and more often four of five before you can have a decent game. Its very difficult to get that many people together at one time and also get them all eager to play a board game when there are so many other disctractions.

Computer Games may be bad for eyesight nad may not be keeping children fit like older games of "tag" and "what's the time Mr Wolf" but what has to be taken into account is that parents are not happy allowing children to play outside unsupervised. If they haven't got the time to supervise their children due to their own busy lives, then it is much easier to have them sitting in front of the television and plugges into a Tv.

Its not a perfect world, but I don't think children will seriously revert back to the more traditional games now: at least not unless there is a huge long lasting power cut or something!
